Man held with 6.5 kg gold

A Kolkata-bound passenger was arrested with 6.5 kg of gold worth over Rs 2 crore during routine security check at the Lokopriyo Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport here on Sunday, police said. Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel during routine security check of the luggage recovered the gold bars from the passenger. The man was identified as Lalthila Liana, who hailed from Aizawl in Mizoram. Further investigations were on, the police added.

4 booked for murdering Muzaffarnagar riots accused

Four unidentified persons were Sunday booked for the alleged murder of a 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots accused, police said. The body of Ram Das alias Kala (30), bearing a bullet injury, was found from his home in Kutba village here. Circle Officer (CO) Hariram Yadav said the police registered a case after a complaint was filed by the victim's brother, Sanjiv who alleged that the four assailants had come on motorcycles and shot his brother. Meanwhile, security was beefed up in and around the communally sensitive village where eight people had reportedly died and several left injured during the 2013 riots. Extra police personnel were deployed as a precautionary measure to prevent any untoward incident, officials said. The communal clashes in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining areas in August and September 2013 had claimed more than 60 lives while over 40,000 people were displaced.

Kashmiri Pandits protest in Jammu against murder of man

A group of Kashmiri migrant pandits Sunday staged a sit-in here demanding strict action against those who murdered a community member on the eve of his daughter's marriage, officials said. Dilip Langar (59) was allegedly stabbed to death by three youths on Wednesday after he objected to a fight between two groups of men at K K Resorts, where his relatives were staying for the marriage of his daughter the next day. All the three accused were arrested later. On Sunday, a the protesters including family members of the deceased gathered at the exhibition ground here demanding severe punishment for the culprits and monetary compensation for the bereaved family. Teenaged Adivasi girl dies after being raped

A 17-year-old Adivasi girl who was allegedly raped by two men at a village in Tamil Nadu last week, died in a hospital, triggering protests by her family, alleging that there was a delay in accepting their complaint and nabbing the accused. The girl died on Saturday of her injuries, following which her family staged the protests. They continued it Sunday, but gave it up on an assurance from District collector S Malarvizhi that the culprits would be arrested within two days. "We are looking into the allegations of negligence by police in accepting complaint from the girl's family. Strict action will be taken if it turns out to be true," she told reporters. 5-yr-old girl sexually abused by class 3 student in Ghaziabad

A five-year-old girl was allegedly sexually abused by a class 3 student here, police said Saturday. The 11-year-old boy took the girl to a desolate place and then sexually abused her, said Senior Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Krishna. After listening to her cries for help, some people reached the spot and found the victim lying in a pool of blood. The girl's father lodged a complaint in this regard, the SP said, adding that the boy was detained, the SP said.

Man held with 39 gold bars at Guwahati airport

An Aizawl-based man was apprehended by the CISF at Guwahati airport with 39 gold bars worth Rs 2.08 crore, a senior official said on Sunday. A CISF spokesperson said the man was supposed to take a flight to Kolkata when he was intercepted by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel after they found a gold bar in his baggage. The man was interrogated and 38 more gold bars were recovered from his checked-in baggage, he said. A total of 39 gold bars, weighing over 6 kg, were seized and the man was subsequently handed over to officials of the Customs Department. The man could not give valid reasons for carrying such a large quantity of the yellow metal, the spokesman said.

Case against quack for 'raping' minor at clinic

A case has been registered against a quack for allegedly raping the minor daughter of a woman who works at his clinic in Uttar Pradesh's Farrukhabad district, police said Sunday. The accused, Vinod Kushwaha, came to the woman's house at Khajuria Nagla village in Shahjahanpur district last Wednesday and took her daughter to the clinic, where he raped the minor after holding her up as a hostage, said Avnish Yadav, station house officer, Allahganj. The accused fled after the incident, Yadav said, adding that the minor went along with the quack as they used to regularly go to the clinic. A case was registered on Saturday on the instructions of Superintendent of Police S Chinappa. The girl has been sent for medical examination and a search is on to nab the accused, the officer added.

Complaint filed against Narela zone school inspector for 'misappropriating' Rs 3.82 cr

A deputy director from education department of North Delhi Municipal Corporation has filed a case with the economic offences wing of Delhi police against a school inspector rank officer of Narela zone for alleged misappropriation of Rs 3.82 crore, police said Sunday. A complaint has been filed against the inspector rank officer for allegedly withdrawing and issuing cheques to his relatives, they said. According to a complaint filed on November 8, the school inspector Rajender Chaurasia of Narela zone has misappropriated municipal fund of Rs 3.82 crore, a senior police officer said. The complainant told the police that Chaurasia, who was authorised signatory to some official education department Narela zone, has illegally withdrawn and issued cheques to his relatives from November 2016 to March 2017, the officer said. According to the complaint, the issued cheques were encased by the accused and his family members and the incident came to notice of audit department in its preliminary .

2 held with smuggled gold worth Rs 3 crore

It appeared to be no less than a movie scene for over 160 passengers on board an aircraft when they saw customs officials entering the plane and carrying out an arrest and seizure operation of two alleged gold smugglers. The officials arrested two men for carrying little over three kilograms of smuggled gold worth nearly Rs one crore on Friday, sources said. The accused, who hail from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, were travelling in a flight from Chandigarh to New Delhi, they said. The customs officials at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport here, who got the last-minute input that the duo were carrying smuggled gold, rushed to Terminal 1 which is about a 15-minute drive from Terminal 3 of the international airport, the sources said. Due to paucity of time and credibility of inputs, customs officials after reaching Terminal 1 decided not to wait for the passengers to disembark by the airline's bus and instead went directly inside the plane, they said. Soon, the work of forensic crime teams will become easier and precise as the Forensic Science Laboratory in New Delhi is set to procure a 3D imaging scanner, a technology used by the US law enforcement agency FBI. According to officials at Forensic Science Laboratory, Rohini, a 3D imaging scanner can capture even the minutest details of a crime scene. A 3D scanner analyses a real-world object and the data collected can then be used to create digital models of the object. This, the officials say, can help in understanding the environment of a crime scene with much more accuracy. "After we will have the 3D imaging scanner, we will place it at a crime scene and a timer of say three minutes will be set. A minor girl was allegedly abducted, held captive and raped by a doctor in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur district, the police said on Sunday.The accused, identified as Vinod Kushwah, allegedly took the girl to his hospital on the pretext of hiring her as a domestic help and held her captive in a small room for several days and raped her. Ker govt appoints IPS officer to probe killing of man pushed by DySP in front of car

5 Bangladeshi nationals arrested in UP

Six persons including five Bangladeshi nationals were arrested from Dulhipur village in Chandauli district of Uttar Pradesh, the police said Sunday. Acting on a tip-off, the Uttar Pradesh Police had Saturday arrested the five Bangladeshi nationals who were living in Dulhipur village under Mughalsarai Police Station, they said. The police recovered from them eight fake high school certificates, mark sheets and four voter identity cards. Mining baron Janardhan Reddy, who was arrested by the Bengaluru Central Crime Branch on Sunday in connection with a bribery case, has been sent to judicial custody till November 24.Reddy, who is the son of former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) minister and Bellary mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy, was arrested on charges of bribery in a case allegedly involving Ambident Group.
