A youth in his early 20's was stabbed to death by five men here over old enmity, police said Saturday. Bhuvnesh Valmiki, a resident of Bhadana area was attacked at around 9 pm on Friday in the city's Naval Park locality, circle in-charge (CI), Nayapura Police Station Manoj Rana said. The victim sustained three fatal injuries, two in the abdomen and one in the heart and was taken to the Maharao Bhim Singh hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, he said. The accused identified as Suraj, Akash and three others fled the spot after committing the crime, he said, adding that the five were booked for murder. Valmiki's body was handed over to his family members Friday after the postmortem examination, he added.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif was on Saturday arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in connection with another corruption case pertaining to Ramzan Sugar Mills.Sharif, who has been in NAB custody in the Aashiana Housing Scheme case, was on Saturday produced before the accountability court in Lahore, as his transit remand expired on Friday, Geo News reported.In the Sugar Mills case, a bridge amounting to Rs. 500 million was built to facilitate the mills. An Army soldier was killed after Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation along the Line of Control in Rajouri's Sunderbani sector in the state on Saturday morning.According to the Army spokesperson, "At about 0945 hours, unprovoked ceasefire violation was initiated by Pakistan in which one Army Soldier was shot by a sniper and succumbed to the injuries."Apparently during the exchange of fire, the soldier suffered injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. A Moroccan court has handed a 12 year prison sentence to a newspaper publisher charged with sexual assault, in a trial his lawyers said was politically motivated. The Casablanca court had found Taoufiq Bouachrine guilty of human trafficking, abuse of power for sexual purposes, rape and attempted rape. The publisher, sentenced late Friday, has maintained his innocence throughout. He was arrested in February at the offices of his independent Arabic-language daily newspaper Akhbar Al-Yaum, known for editorials and cartoons critical of the authorities. A 48-year-old self-styled faith healer has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman on the pretext of helping her overcome her sufferings here in Maharashtra, police said Saturday. The accused, Ajay Chowdhari, a resident of Virar area, was arrested late Friday night, Palghar police spokesperson Hemant Katkar said. The 37-year-old victim in her complaint said she came in contact with the accused in May last year, when he offered to help her and gave a 'taveez' (an amulet), which, he said, would resolve her problems. The accused also allegedly raped her on several occasions till October this year on the pretext of helping her conceive a child, Katkar said, quoting the woman's complaint. However, the victim later realised that she had been cheated and sexually assaulted by the accused and lodged a police complaint against the accused on Friday. The Central Pollution Control Board has issued a notice to Noida district magistrate over the sale of unauthorised fire crackers despite a Supreme Court ban. The Delhi-NCR recorded its worst air quality in the 'severe' category a day after Diwali. Authorities attributed the spike in pollution level to burning of toxic fire crackers. In a letter, CPCB chairperson S P Singh Parihar said it had been reported that fire crackers other than those permitted by the apex court were sold and burst on Diwali in Gautam Buddh Nagar district. "The above status indicates non-compliance of the Supreme Court order," the letter said. "Direction is hereby issued to district magistrate to submit report on action taken to prevent sale of unauthorised fire crackers in Gautam Buddh district along with reason for non-compliance of the Supreme Court order," it said. The pollution control board has sought the report within seven days. Meanwhile, the Gautam Buddh Nagar administration asked the city magistrates .
A pregnant woman was allegedly strangled to death on a train for objecting to a co-passenger smoking, a senior GRP official said. On Friday night, Chinat Devi (45) was travelling with her family in the general bogey of Punjab-Bihar Jallianwala Express when she objected to a co-passenger, identified as Sonu Yadav, smoking, GRP police station In-charge, Shahjahanpur, A K Pandey said. After a heated argument, Yadav attacked the woman and strangled her, Pandey said, adding that the train was stopped at Shahjahanpur and the woman was rushed to a hospital where the doctors declared her dead. The deceased and her family were on their way to Bihar for taking part in Chhat puja festivities, Pandey said. The accused was arrested and the body was sent for post-mortem, he said.

A married woman allegedly chopped off the genital of a man with whom she had an extra-marital affair at a village in Keonjhar district, the police said. The incident occurred in the house of the woman at Badauagaan village Wednesday night, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) James Toppo said. The 24-year-old woman was arrested Friday following a complaint filed by family members of the man identified as Rajendra Nayak (25), who is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Cuttack, he said. Two men were killed when their motorcycle was hit by a speeding car near Bhuapur Tirkaripur village under the Jangipur police station here, police said Saturday. A man was stoned death by unidentified persons following a drunken brawl in Pakur district, police said Saturday. The incident took place at Gutipara village under the jurisdiction of Littipara police station, the police said. The deceased was identified as Vakil Hembram, a resident of Labda village near Gutipara village, a police officer said. Hembram had gone to Gutipara village on Thursday to watch a football match and did not return home, the police officer said, adding, the residents of Gutipara village saw Hembram's body on Friday morning and informed the police. A police officer has been sentenced to 18 months in prison by a UK court for causing the death of an Indian-origin shopkeeper when his car crashed into his van. Balvinder Singh was driving his vehicle in Wolverhampton when he was hit head-on by a car driven by Staffordshire Police officer Jason Bannister, who was off-duty at the time. Singh, 59, was rushed to a hospital but died of his injuries in December 2016. Bannister, who had pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving in a hearing in September, was sentenced to 18 months of imprisonment by a Birmingham Crown Court on Friday. The 45-year-old was himself treated for minor injuries after the collision and following an investigation by West Midlands Police, he was charged with causing death by dangerous driving earlier this year, according to local media reports. Bannister has also been banned from driving for three years and nine months and will be required to complete an extended driving test in order to obtain a licence .
Four Indian-origin men were charged by a Singapore court on Saturday for lighting fireworks on Diwali. Lighting of fireworks has been banned in the country since 1972.
