A police officer was removed from service Thursday for allegedly taking bribe from some of the accused in a suspected honour killing case in Kerala. Two police personnel, ASI Biju and police driver Ajaya Kumar of Gandhinagar police station near Kottayam, were arrested and suspended for allegedly taking bribe from some of the people accused of killing a 23-year-old man in May this year. Biju was removed from service on Thursday, according to an order by Kottayam district police chief Hari Sankar. The department also cancelled service benefits to Kumar for three years. Kevin P Joseph, a Dalit Christian, was abducted on May 27 by a gang allegedly engaged by his fiancee's family, who were opposed to their move to marry. A woman employee of the Tamil Nadu forest department has approached the Madras High Court, alleging that her office in-charge has been abusing her mentally and physically. In her plea, she has demanded installation of CCTV cameras at workplace to ensure protection. The woman has been working in the Madukarai Range (Coimbatore district). The Hyderabad Police on Thursday said that they have registered 71 cases on persons in various places of the city for bursting firecrackers after 10 pm on the occasion of Diwali yesterday.Speaking to ANI over the phone, Additional Commissioner (Crimes and SIT) of Hyderabad, Shika Goel said, "Implementing the Supreme Court order, we have registered 71 cases under Section 22/77 on the persons in various places of the Hyderabad city for bursting crackers after 10 pm."Before Diwali, the Hyderabad Police released a notification for the public, warning them to not burst crackers after 10 pm on Diwali. A woman died after she was allegedly raped by three men, including her former husband, and a stick was inserted in her private parts in Jamtara district of Jharkhand, police said Thursday. Sub-Divisional Police Officer B N Singh said the woman's ex-husband has been arrested a search is on to arrest the two others. According to police, the woman had gone to watch a play at a theatre on Kali puja on Wednesday night. Her former husband and two of his associates forcibly took her to a field in the village under Narayanpur police station area. Delhi police has arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly setting ablaze 18 vehicles in south Delhi's Madangir Village, police said Thursday. The accused was identified as Vijay Shukla and a country-made pistol and some matchboxes were found from his possession, a senior police officer said. In a video of the incident which had gone viral, a man was seen setting fire to the vehicles after opening the fuel pipe of the motorcycles. Petrol overflowed from the tanks of six motorcycles after which they were set on fire by a match stick. The cars parked nearby also caught fire, the officer said. The police rushed to the spot after receiving information of the incident at around 3.05 am Tuesday and doused the flames. A 45-year-old man was shot dead allegedly by a group of men after an altercation during a game of cards turned ugly, police said Thursday. Police on Thursday arrested five people from a minority community for allegedly slaughtering a cow at Bankul in South Tripura district. The five were held on the basis of a complaint from villagers, they said. "We arrested them on Wednesday and placed the accused before the court of Sub-divisional Judicial Magistrate of Sabroom. A teenaged girl was allegedly murdered after suspected rape and the body set on fire to hide her identity at Lakshmipuram this district, police said Thursday. Though the incident took place on Tuesday night, it came to light only when the semi-burnt body of the minor girl was found near a forest department depot at Lakshmipuram Wednesday morning. The Delhi Police rescued two businessmen who were kidnapped on Sunday and also recovered a ransom amount of Rs 25.50 lakh from the accused. The accused, identified as Azim Khan, 31, and Kamran Khan, were arrested. On November 6, the police received a call regarding the kidnapping of the businessmen, a senior police official said Thursday.
