Man arrested for killing school teacher in Oct

A 22-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing a school teacher in Rohini's Bawana area last month, police said Thursday. The accused was identified as Shehzad Saifi alias Kalu, a resident of Meerut, they added. On October 29, Saifi, along with his two associates, had shot dead Sunita (38), a government school teacher, at Bawana, AK Singla, Additional Commissioner of Police, (Crime) said. Sunita's husband Manjeet had planned her killing as she was against his relationship with another woman. Police have already arrested four persons -- Manjeet, Angel Gupta, Rajeev and Deepak in the case, Singla added. According to police, Deepak hired killers from Meerut. He asked his uncle, Dharmender, who agreed to kill Sunita for Rs 10 lakh, the officer said. Dharmender recruited Shehzad and Vishal. On that day, all three gunned down Sunita while she was on her way to school, he said. On Tuesday, police received information that Shehzad would be coming to old Seema Puri area and at around 8 .

Six HC judges transferred

Six judges were on Thursday transferred to different high courts including Justice Nirmaljit Kaur, who is known as a whistleblower in the 2008 cash-in-bag scam. Separate Law Ministry notifications said Justice Pavankumar Bhimappa Bajanthri, judge of the Punjab and Haryana High, stands transferred to the Karnataka High Court. Similarly, Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad of the Orissa High Court was posted to the Jharkhand High Court Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan, a judge of the Karnataka High Court, was sent to the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh High Court. Justice Satrughana Pujahari of the Madras High Court was sent to the Orissa High Court. Justice Rajeev Sharma of the Uttarakhand High Court was transferred to the Punjab and Haryana High Court. 22-yr-old woman raped by 2 men in Anand Vihar

A 22-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a property dealer and his associate on the pretext of providing her a job in Anand Vihar area, police said Thursday. The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon, they added. In her complaint to police, the woman alleged that the property dealer called her to his associate's office in Anand Vihar on the day of Diwali on the pretext of giving her a job and the duo raped her, a senior police officer said. The victim, who has two children, told police that she came in contact with the property dealer some 15 months ago, the officer added. A case was registered against Govind Singh Bhati (55) and his associate Dharam Veer (58) and soon, they were arrested, he said.

Man stabbed to death by friend over Rs 250

A man was stabbed to death by his friend on Thursday in Sahibabad area here over the non-payment of Rs 250 which the latter had lent him, the police said. The deceased, Sanjay, was a tractor driver. The incident took place on Thursday afternoon when Sanjay was drinking with his friend Pradeep, who is a barber, SHO Sahibabad Dinesh Yadav said. Pradeep asked Sanjay to return Rs 250 which he had borrowed from him and the two got into an argument over it, he said. In a fit of rage, Pradeep stabbed Sanjay thrice in the chest with a pair of scissors, he added. Some neighbours rushed Sanjay to the district hospital where he succumbed to injuries, Yadav said, adding that his body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. Pradeep has been arrested, he said.

Thattanchavady seat declared vacant by Pondy assembly speaker

: Speaker of the Puducherry Assembly V Vaithilingam Thursday declared Thattanchavady constituency vacant following the disqualification of the sitting legislator Ashok Anand (AINRC) in the wake of his conviction in a disproportionate assets case. The Speaker declared through a notification that the seat has fallen vacant in accordance with the provisions of the Article 102 (1) (e) of the Constitution read with the section 14 (1) of government of Union Territories Act 1963. Also, he declared that the constituency shall be deemed to have become vacant from October 30 when Ashok Anand was convicted. Ashok Anand was convicted under Section 13 (1) (e) read with sub-section (2) of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 read with section 109 of Indian Penal Code by the Special Judge of Puducherry in the case filed by the CBI. Anand was also awarded one-year rigorous imprisonment and was also slapped a fine of Rs one lakh (in default to undergo further imprisonment of three months) ..

Wife says she fatally shot Missouri KKK leader, not her son

The wife of a slain Missouri Ku Klux Klan leader says she, not her son, pulled the trigger. The St Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Malissa Ancona and her son, Paul Edward Jinkerson Jr, face first-degree murder charges in the February 2017 death of Frank Ancona , who called himself an "imperial wizard" of the Ku Klux Klan. Ancona last year agreed to testify against her son, whom she originally blamed in the shooting. But in a September 26 letter to Judge Wendy Wexler Horn, Malissa Ancona said: "He did not pull the trigger (I DID)." The next hearing in Ancona's case is set for April. Jinkerson's trial starts in May. Frank Ancona's body was found dumped beside the Big River close to Belgrade, 110 kilometers south of St Louis.

Man strangulated to death for defecating beside a house

Two members of a family were arrested for allegedly strangulating a man to death following an altercation over defecation beside their house in Palamau district on Thursday, police said. The accused family members opposed to Manager Ram for defecating near their house, which led to an altercation, said Superintendent of Police, Indrajeet Mahatha. In a fit of rage, the family members strangulated Ram to death, he said. On being intimated, police swung into action and arrested two brothers - Chotu and Mahendra - while their father and a brother managed to escape. An FIR has been registered based on the statement of the victims son and wife, the SP added.

Police register 579 cases, arrest over 300 on Diwali night for violating SC order

Over 570 cases were registered and more than 300 people arrested on Diwali night for violating the Supreme Court's order on burning of fire crackers, officials said Thursday. Police also seized 2,776 kgs of firecrackers from various parts of the city on Diwali. A total of 87 people were arrested and 72 cases registered in connection with illegal sale of crackers on the same day, they added. The Delhi police said it registered around 579 cases under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (disobedience of order) and arrested 310 people for violating the Supreme Court's order. The arrested were later granted bail, a senior police officer said. Legal action was taken against 24 juveniles under the provisions of the Juvenile Act for not abiding by the top court's direction, he said. The Supreme Court had allowed bursting of firecrackers from 8 pm to 10 pm only on Diwali and other festivals. US Marine veteran massacres 12 in 'horrific' mass shooting in California bar packed with students

A US Marine veteran dressed in black sprayed bullets inside a crowded dance bar popular with college students Wednesday night, killing at least 12 people, including a police officer, in Thousand Oaks city in California, in one of the "horrific" mass shooting incidents in the US. The gunman, who also injured nearly two dozen others, was found dead inside the Borderline Bar and Grill on the outskirts of Los Angeles. Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean identified the gunman as 28-year-old Ian David Long, a US Marine Corps veteran, who used a .45 caliber Glock handgun during the shooting. Over 7,900 kg of illegal firecrackers seized from various parts of Delhi

Over 7,900 kg of illegal firecrackers, including over 2,500 kg on Diwali, have been seized from various parts of the national capital since the Supreme Court ordered a ban on sale of old crackers, police said Thursday. A total of 113 cases have been registered and 124 people arrested for violating the apex court's October 23 order, they said. According to police, over 2,500 kg of illegal firecrackers were seized from various parts of the city on Diwali and 87 people arrested in connection with 72 cases registered in this regard. "Delhi Police has seized 2,776 kg of illegal firecrackers from across Delhi on Diwali. Eighty-seven people have been arrested and 72 cases were registered in connection with illegal sale of firecrackers," a senior police officer said. Police continue search for Janardhana Reddy in ponzi case

Central crime branch sleuths Thursday intensified their search for Ballari-based mining baron Gali Janardhana Reddy in connection with a money transaction amounting to crores of rupees allegedly linked to a ponzi scheme. Police action against 370 proplr for violating SC directive on

The Odisha police have registered cases and collecting penalty from at least 370 people in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack for violating the Supreme Courts 8pm to 10 pm directive on bursting of crackers during Diwali, Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Police Commissioner Satyajit Mohanty said Thursday. The police registered cases against 140 people of the two cities for allegedly bursting crackers beyond the time frame set by the apex court on Wednesday. The police have also collected a penalty of Rs 1.15 lakh from 230 persons for the violation, Mohanty said. Man accused of human trafficking in Jharkhand held from Bihar

A police team from Jharkhand arrested a person here on Thursday for allegedly running a human trafficking racket through a couple of NGOs which he operated along with his wife. Rohit Muni, a resident of Kahalgaon sub-division in the district, was arrested by the police team from Simdega in the neighbouring state, Sub Divisional Police Officer Dilnawaz Ahmed said. He said Rohit carried a reward of Rs 10,000 on his head and had been absconding ever since a Simdega court had issued an arrest warrant against him in 2013. Case against ex-Minister for threatening civic official

: A case has been registered against former Education Minister P M L Kalyananasundaram (AINRC) and two of his supporters for allegedly abusing and intimidating the Commissioner of Oulgaret Municipality M Kandasamy, police said here Thursday. Kalayanasundaram and his supporters picked up an argument with the civic official over renewal of an agreement to run a reverse osmosis plant belonging to the municipality, the police said. The municipality did not renew the agreement and entrusted the task of running the plant with local panchayats, they said. This led to the argument and the former Minister allegedly abused the official and threatened him, the police said. Ahmedabad: 35 held for flouting SC directive on firecrackers

As many as 35 persons were arrested from different parts of Ahmedabad city for flouting a Supreme Court order that limited the bursting of firecrackers from 8 pm and 10 pm on Diwali, police said Thursday. These 35 persons were arrested Wednesday night under IPC section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and were granted bail later, an official said. Delhi HC directs municipal body to pay 10 lakh compensation to parents of minor electrocuted in park

The Delhi High Court has directed the North Delhi Municipal Corporation to pay Rs 10 lakh as compensation to the parents of a 13-year-old boy, who was electrocuted in a park after receiving shock from a metallic fencing erected around a high mast pole in 2010. Justice J R Midha directed the municipal body to deposit the amount along with interest with the high court's registrar general within six weeks and listed the matter for December for disbursement of the money to the child's parents. The incident took place on July 12, 2010 when the minor was playing in the park near his residence in Anand Parbat area. Delhi HC directs police to refrain from filing status report in 'casual' manner

The Delhi High Court has directed Delhi Police officials to refrain from filing status reports in a "casual" and "cavalier" manner. A division bench of justices Siddharth Mridul and Sangita Dhingra directed the officials to exercise caution, care and diligence while responding to proceedings pending before the court. "The officers of the Delhi Police are directed to eschew from filing status reports in a casual and cavalier manner," it said.
