At least five police personnel, including a sub-inspector, have been suspended for allegedly providing preferential treatment to underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's brother Iqbal Kaskar in prison.Kaskar is lodged in a Thane jail in an extortion case.Police Commissioner of Thane, Vivek Phansalkar, passed the order after a video went viral in which Kaskar is seen seated in a private car and eating Biryani while meeting people inside the jail.Taking cognizance of the clip, the Thane police set up an inquiry and suspended the policemen.Kaskar was arrested on September 18, 2017, from his Mumbai residence, by the Thane anti-extortion cell on the charges of extortion. The arrest was made on the basis of a complaint filed by a builder, who alleged the fugitive's brother of threatening to obtain money from him since 2013.The builder was taken into confidence by cops and a complaint was registered at the Kasarvadavali Police Station.
A man claiming to be an RTI activist was arrested on Saturday for allegedly extorting Rs 5 lakh from a prominent builder here and threatening him to pay another Rs 45 lakh, police said. The accused was identified as Sudhir Bharge, police said adding, two of his associates have been booked in the case. A complaint against the accused was lodged at Kasarwadavali police station in the city by a security officer of the construction company, they said. As per the complaint, Bharge came to the company's site office in Thane and alleged that the builder had carried out unauthorised construction. He demanded Rs 50 lakh from the builder to hush up the matter. He threatened that if the money was not paid, he would complain against the company for carrying out 'illegal' construction. A 34-year-old man was arrested for allegedly hacking to death a minor girl in outer Delhi, police said Friday. The accused Rakesh, a resident of Moti Nagar and hailing from Garhwa district in Jharkhand killed the 16-year-old victim, Soni Kumari, with the help of his three accomplices-- Gauri, Sahu and Manjeet Karketa in May earlier this year, they said. According to police, the gang of four trafficked girls from Jharkhand by promising them well-paying jobs in Delhi but would instead force them to work as domestic helps here. During interrogation, Rakesh told police that Kumari had been pestering them about the non-payment of salary and return to her home in Jharkhand, they said. Two traffic policemen in Gautam Buddh Nagar were suspended Friday for allegedly illegally recovering money from a cab driver, an order said. The action came a day after a video surfaced on social media in which the two traffic officials were purportedly seen demanding money from the cab driver. "Taking cognisance of the video, Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Pal Sharma has ordered the suspension of head constables Ramveer and Dharamveer," a police spokesperson said in a brief statement. The constables had allegedly demanded some money from the driver of the cab, which was not registered in Uttar Pradesh, for entry in Gautam Buddh Nagar's Noida in the name of "UP taxi". The incident had taken place near the Botanical Garden Metro station, when the driver started filming the episode in which he is purportedly accusing the traffic policemen of illegally demanding money despite having all requisite papers of the vehicle.

A tribal girl was allegedly raped by five men in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district, police said Friday. Four of the accused have been arrested. The incident took place in Lailunga area of the district on Wednesday night when the victim, a Class 11 student, had gone to visit a fair on the occasion of Sharad Purnima with her family, a local police official said. A group of seven men allegedly abducted her in a car and took her to an isolated spot, he said. Five of them allegedly raped her. The accused later abandoned her at the spot and fled, the official said. The girl reached home Thursday morning, after which a police complaint was lodged. A case was registered under IPC sections 376 (d) (gang rape), 363 (kidnapping) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO). The Crime Branch of Mumbai police Friday busted a racket which allegedly helped accused persons secure bail by providing fake documents for money. Unit-1 of the Crime Branch laid a trap outside the Sessions Court and arrested eight men, a police official said. The gang facilitated bail by providing forged documents, said Dilip Sawant, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection). It operated in the sessions court and metropolitan magistrate courts in Mumbai and neighbouring Thane and Navi Mumbai, he said.
