The Supreme Court Collegium Friday made public the names of six judicial officers and two advocates it has recommended as the judges of three high courts. The apex court collegium also recommended names of seven additional judges to be appointed as permanent judges in the Gauhati High Court. Besides the Gauhati High Court, the recommendations have also been made for the Madhya Pradesh High Court, the Calcutta High Court and the Punjab & Haryana High Court. The recommendations, made on October 24 by the collegium comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices Madan B Lokur and Kurian Joseph, have been posted on the official website of the apex court. Six members of a gang involved in leaking a question paper of a constable recruitment examination were arrested by the UP Special Task Force in Agra. In a statement issued here Friday, the STF said the members of the gang were trying to leak the examination paper to the aspirants in lieu of financial gains from them. The examination was scheduled on October 25 and October 26, and the arrests were made Thursday. "Acting on a tip-off that some people have gathered at Khandauli area of Agra to leak the question paper to aspirants in lieu of financial gains, a team of UP STF stationed in Agra arrested six people. Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Friday endorsed the death sentences of 14 "hardcore terrorists" who were convicted by special military courts. The military courts were set up soon after the Peshawar attack of December 2014 that killed nearly 150 schoolchildren for speedy trial of militants in Pakistan. The Army said Bajwa "confirmed death sentences awarded to 14 hardcore terrorists, who were involved in heinous offences related to terrorism". They were found guilty of attacking armed forces, law enforcing agencies, killing of innocent civilians and destruction of educational institutions. Two men were arrested for allegedly trying to kill a man in Outer Delhi's Mangol Puri area, police said Friday. The accused were identified as Amit (22) and Saurabh (22), both are residents of Bhind, Madhya Pradesh, they added. On October 14, an incident of gunshot was reported at Mangol Puri police station. During the incident, a man sustained gun injuries, Seju Kuruvilla, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) said. During investigation, CCTV footages were shown to the victim. On his instance, one Amit friend of Saurabh, who is a relative of his sister-in-law Uma, resident of Vijay Vihar, Delhi, was observed as prime suspect, Kuruvilla added. In a setback for Ahmed Patel, the Gujarat High Court on Friday said it will hear a petition filed by BJP's Balwantsinh Rajput against the senior Congress leader's election to the Rajya Sabha last year. Patel's application questioning the maintainability of Rajput's plea was dismissed by Justice Bela Trivedi. The court will now hear the plea from November 19. Three men were arrested for robbing a collection agent of Rs 6 lakh at gunpoint, police said Friday. Acting upon a secret information and CCTV footage, Indirapuram police made the arrests in the case that took place on August 29. City Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar said the accused have been identified as Rahul, Ravi and Amit. A three-and-half-year old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by the driver of her school bus in Greater Noida, officials said Friday. The mother of the victim, who is studying in kindergarten of a private school in Sector 70, said the matter came to light earlier this month when her daughter returned home and started crying. "I was at my office in Gurgaon on October 9 and my husband went to pick up our daughter when she returned from the school on the bus in the afternoon," she said in her complaint. In a suspected case of honour killing, an 18-year-old man was allegedly kidnapped and beaten to death, all of which was captured on a video by the accused, including the cousin of a minor girl the victim was in relationship with, police said Friday. The deceased was identified as Sahil alias Gapchu, a resident of Bawana, they said. The accused persons beat up the victim before strangulating him to death. The Haryana Police has managed to reunite a five-year-old girl, who was missing for over three months, with her family in Panchkula using her Aadhaar biometric details. The Supreme Court Friday declined to hear on priority a petition filed by an advocate against the practice of polygamy among Muslims, saying he should first deposit a fine that was due. When the petition filed by Asok Pande came up for hearing, a bench headed by Justice Madan B Lokur reminded the advocate that he was imposed a cost of Rs 25,000 by the apex court recently for filing a plea and until he deposits that amount with the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee, his matter would not be heard. A two-day-old abandoned girl, covered with ant bites, was recovered from a bush in Sipahijala district about 30 km from here, police said on Friday.
