Boy kills himself as pistol goes off accidentally, uncle held

A 12-year-boy accidentally shot himself while handling a country-made pistol in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district, police said Wednesday. While the boy died on the spot, police arrested his uncle to whom the illegally-made weapon allegedly belonged. The incident took place at Rahuri in the district Tuesday evening. Aditya Bhairavnath More, the boy, was holding the pistol in his hand when it went off and the bullet hit him in the chest, police said. A case under IPC section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and under the Arms Act was registered against his uncle Navnath More. Police were investigating from where Navnath obtained the pistol and for what purpose, said an official. "We are also investigating whether the accused has any criminal record," he said.

Hotel brawl: Non-bailable warrant issued against Ashish Pandey

Delhi's Patiala House Court on Wednesday issued a non-bailable warrant against Ashish Pandey in connection with the Hyatt hotel brawl case.On Tuesday, Delhi Police took suo moto cognizance of a video in which a man, later identified as Ashish Pandey, son of former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP Rakesh Pandey, was seen brandishing a gun in premises of Hyatt hotel in the national capital, following a brawl with Kanwar Gaurav - son of ex-Congress MLA Kanwar Karan Singh. The incident happened on the night of October 13.The Delhi Police is coordinating with the Lucknow Police in this case, since Ashish is from Lucknow, however, his ancestral house is in Akbarpur. Delhi Police seeks non-bailable warrant against former BSP leader's son

The Delhi Police Wednesday sought a non-bailable warrant against the son of a former BSP MP for allegedly brandishing a gun at guests and threatening them in the foyer of a five-star hotel here, a video of which went viral on the social media, police said. Delhi govt. notifies appointment of 7 principal judges for family courts

Delhi Government on Wednesday notified appointment of seven principal judges for the family courts of various districts.As per notification, Yashwant Kumar has been appointed to West, Tis Hazari Court, R.P. Pandey has been placed in Rohini court, North. Swarana Kanta Sharma has been allotted Patiala House Court, New Delhi. Sudhir Kr Jain has been placed at Karkardooma courts in East Delhi.In other appointments, Sanjay Garg has been given South-East, Saket while Reena Singh Nag has been appointed to Kakardooma, Shahdara district and Sanjay Kumar has been made principal judge in Rohini courts in North-West Delhi.The appointments came after the Delhi High Court had directed the government to notify the appointments as soon as possible.

Turkish lawyer appeals American pastor's sentencing

The lawyer of an American pastor whose confinement in Turkey caused a Turkish-US diplomatic rift is appealing his client's conviction on terror charges. Andrew Brunson was convicted last week and sentenced to more than three years in prison, but was freed and allowed to leave Turkey for the two years he already spent in custody. He has since returned to the United States and met with President Donald Trump. State-run Anadolu Agency said lawyer Ismail Cem Halavurt filed an appeal on Wednesday arguing the court's ruling was against "the law and procedures." Prosecutors who had sought a longer sentence for the evangelical pastor also filed a similar appeal. Brunson was accused of links to Kurdish militants and a US-based Muslim cleric whom Turkey blames for a failed coup in 2016.

NGT orders action against bakery unit running in residential area in Badarpur

The National Green Tribunal has asked the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) and the SDM concerned to inquire and take action against an alleged illegal bakery being run in a residential area in Badarpur here. A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel directed the SDMC and the SDM to look into the matter and take appropriate action in accordance with law. "Allegation in this application is that the illegal bakery was earlier closed by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation in 2006 in the presence of the SDM, Kalkaji and Delhi Police. The same was started again... "The applicant is directed to furnish a copy of this order, along with a complete set of papers to the SDM,Kalkaji and the SDMC for compliance," the bench said. Serial killer of minor girls executed in Pak

A serial killer of minor girls was executed at a jail in Lahore on Wednesday after he was convicted and sentenced to death by an anti-terrorism court for raping and murdering a seven-year-old girl, in an incident that sparked outrage and violent protests in Pakistan early this year. Imran Ali, 24, who was convicted for the rape and murder of the minor girl in Kasur city, some 50-km from Lahore, was hanged at 5.30am in the presence of the victim's father Amin Ansari and magistrate Adil Sarwar in Kot Lakhpat Central Jail. The girl's uncle was also present at the jail. A resident of Kasur, Imran was accused of being involved in at least nine incidents of rape-cum-murder of minors. The court has given its verdict in five cases. Imran had told police that he committed the heinous crime after he got addicted to sex by watching child pornography. Rampal gets life imprisonment in a 2014 murder case

Self-styled godman Rampal was on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment in a 2014 murder case.Speaking to ANI after the verdict, Ashok Kumar Meena, District Magistrate, Hisar said that prohibitory orders have been imposed in the district and adequate measures have been taken to keep the situation under control.Meena said, "Court today pronounced its verdict on 2014 FIR number 430 in which 14 people including Rampal have been sentenced to life imprisonment till death. 250 youth freed from illegal de-addiction centre in Chamkaur Sahib, owner arrested

Punjab police raided an illegal drug de-addiction centre near Chamkaur Sahib in Rupnagar district and freed 250 young men who were being used as bonded labourers there, a senior official Wednesday. All the 250 men, aged between 20 and 30, were confined in a big room and were beaten everyday, Rupnagar Senior Superintendent of Police Swapan Sharma said. He said the centre named Jand Sahib Gurmukhi Academy had no facility for de-addiction and the owner was charging Rs 20,000 per month from the parents of drug addicts. They were being used as bonded labour and made to feed cattle owned by the academy, he said. "There was no facility in the name of de-addiction. It was horrible to see the injured youth, some of whom have been admitted to a hospital," the SSP said. The owner of the centre Khushwinder Singh, alias Kaka, has been arrested along with two caretakers, Dilbagh Singh Baghi and Amandeep Singh, he said. 7-yr-old girl, returning home from school, raped in Haryana's Rewari

A seven-year-old girl, who was returning home from her school, was allegedly raped by a man in Haryana's Rewari district, police said Wednesday. The man grabbed the child and took her to the fields and raped her there on Tuesday, they said. The girl was profusely bleeding when she reached home, police said. She narrated the ordeal to her mother following which police were informed, they added. The child was admitted to a hospital in a serious condition, police said. 4 men booked for raping speech and hearing-impaired woman at Khadki Military Hospital

Four men working with the Army have been booked for allegedly raping and molesting a 34-year-old speech and hearing-impaired woman employee of a military hospital here in Maharashtra in 2015, police said Wednesday. Besides the police, the Army too is conducting a 'court of inquiry' against the four personnel, who also worked in the same military hospital at the time. The alleged offence took place between January and June 2015 at the Military Hospital - Kirkee in Pune's Khadki suburb. The woman has been working at the facility since 2014. A Haryana court sentenced self-styled godman Rampal and his 13 followers to life imprisonment in a second case of murder Wednesday. The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge in Hisar sentenced Rampal, 67, and his followers in the case registered at Barwala police station in the district on November 19, 2014. They had been charged with murder, wrongful confinement of people and criminal conspiracy. A woman was found dead at Rampal's Ashram in Hisar district on November 19, 2014. Muzaffarpur shelter home: ED registers money laundering case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday registered a money laundering case in connection with the Muzaffarpur shelter home case in which 44 girls were allegedly sexually assaulted at a government-run shelter home.The case has been filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).The ED sources said that the alleged mastermind behind the scandal Brajesh Thakur and his staff were involved in illegally taking funds from the state government in the name of shelter home.More than 40 minor girls were allegedly sexually assaulted over a period of time in the shelter home which was run by Thakur's state-funded non- governmental organisation (NGO). The NGO was blacklisted and the girls were shifted to shelter homes in Patna and Madhubani.As many as 11 employees of the shelter home were arrested including Thakur.The investigation in the case is being carried out by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
