Class 6 boy flees home, calls parents to 'reach in 5 minutes', dad hears 'Rs 5 lakh ransom'

Scolded by family members, a Class 6 student left home for a few hours here, prompting his parents to approach the police fearing a kidnap and the "ransom" amount being Rs 5 lakh, officials said Tuesday. The 11-year-old boy, who lives in Noida's Chhijarsi area, was peeved over his parents frequently scolding him. His father runs a grocery store and would often make him sit on the counter, a police official said. "The boy would often take some money from the 'galla' (cash box) and he did the same Monday morning. He had taken Rs 100, after which his uncle had also scolded him," he added. The boy later left home for school but instead, hitchhiked a ride from a stranger on a motorcycle to Bisrakh in Greater Noida, the police said. Stolen jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh recovered, 2 held in Greater Noida

Two persons were arrested and stolen jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh was allegedly recovered from their possession in Gautam Buddh Nagar, police said Tuesday. Mohammad Sajid and Puneet Verma were arrested from a service road near the Tigri Gate in Greater Noida, the police said. The accused belonged to Hapur district, a senior police official said. "Sajid works as a carpenter. During visits to houses, he would carry out a reconnaissance of the targets and then steal jewellery. Puneet has a jewellery shop and used to buy the jewellery stolen by Sajid," Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Pal Sharma told reporters. "Multiple sets of jewellery, including gold bangles, gold and diamond rings, necklaces, nose rings -- all estimated to be worth Rs 10 lakh -- have been recovered from the duo," he said. A case was registered against the accused at the Bisrakh police station and they were remanded to judicial custody, Sharma added.

Charitable trust moves HC over 'Me Too' movement

A charitable trust moved Tuesday the Bombay High Court seeking a preliminary inquiry into all allegations of sexual harassment at work places, surfacing as part of the #MeToo movement. The plea by city-based Narsima Charitable Trust sought the court's directions to the Maharashtra government and police to hold prompt preliminary probes into all the #MeToo allegations, surfacing on social media. The Trust's plea was filed by advocate Sunny Punamia. The #MeToo movement has taken the social media by storm with women from various fields openly narrating the old instances of sexual harassment and naming their tormentors. Punamia said the plea would be mentioned Wednesday before a high court bench for urgent hearing. It is likely to be taken up for hearing later this week. The plea has made the state government, the police and the Press Council of India, among others, parties to the case. Ex-BSP MP's son brandishes gun at 5-star hotel; Delhi Police lodges FIR

The son of a former BSP MP was booked for allegedly brandishing a gun at guests and threatening them in the foyer of a five-star hotel here, a video of which went viral on the social media, police said Tuesday. The Delhi Police has also sent a show-cause notice to the hotel for alleged negligence in the matter. The accused, Ashish Pandey, hails from Lucknow and is the son of former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP Rakesh Pandey. His brother, Ritesh Pandey, is an MLA in Uttar Pradesh. The police said an FIR was lodged under the Arms Act and sections of the IPC, including those related to causing hurt (323), criminal intimidation (506) and using force with the intent to outrage the modesty of a woman (354). Initially, the case was registered under the Arms Act and the IPC sections were added to it later, the police said. "The police have registered a case. We are coordinating with the Uttar Pradesh police and teams are looking out for him (Pandey)," Joint Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) .

Trump calls Stormy Daniels Horseface

The tweet comes after a federal judge in California threw out Daniels's defamation lawsuit against Trump and ordered Daniels to repay the president's legal fees. Incident involving BSP leader's son: Delhi Police issues show-cause notice to hotel

The Delhi Police said Tuesday it has issued a show-cause notice to The Hyatt Regency for alleged negligence after the son of a former BSP MP was seen in a video brandishing a gun at guests and threatening them in the foyer of the five-star hotel. Three teams of the Delhi Police are in Lucknow to trace the accused, Ashish Pandey (40), the son of former Bahujan Samaj Party MP Rakesh Pandey, a senior police official said. Ashish Pandey hails from Lucknow and has been booked for brandishing a gun and threatening two persons in the main foyer of the hotel here, the official said. Man held for killing model friend, stuffing her body in

Hours after a suitcase containing the body of an aspiring model was found dumped in suburban Malad here Monday afternoon, her 20-year-old friend was arrested by the police for allegedly killing her following an argument, an official said Tuesday. The accused, identified as Muzammil Syed, is a student from Hyderabad who has been staying with his relative in suburban Andheri for the last few days, he said. The victim, who hails from Rajasthan, is identified as Mansi Dixit (aged around 20). The body of Dixit was found stuffed in a suitcase that was found abandoned at a commercial hub in the western suburb, the official said. Gujarat High Court gets four new judges

The Union Law Ministry Tuesday appointed four new judges to the Gujarat High Court, taking the total number of judges to 31. As per a notification issued by the ministry, Umesh Trivedi, Ajay Kumar Rao, Viresh Kumar Mayani and Ashutosh Thaker have been appointed as the judges, in the order of seniority. While Trivedi is an advocate, the three others are judicial officers. The high court has 27 judges, as against the sanctioned strength of 52. With the new appointments, the number of judges will go upto 31. Three judges are retiring in another three months. The Supreme Court Collegium had in April recommended the names of five candidates for their elevation to high court judges, among them the name of judicial officer Vishnukumar Patel did not figure in the list.

Gang of burglars busted in Ghaziabad, 4 held

With the arrest of four people, police busted a gang of burglars and seized 78 mobile phones, gold ornaments and cash worth Rs 14,000 from them, an official said Tuesday. A police team intercepted two motorcycles and arrested four people during checking at Samrat Chowk, SP (city) Shlok Kumar said. During interrogation, the accused persons -- Akash, Ajay, Sumit and Arvind -- confessed to committing several burglaries and snatching mobile phones and gold ornaments, he said. Man held with 1.75 kilo charas in Shimla

A 22-year-old man was caught with 1.75 kg of charas near Tara Devi area here on Tuesday evening, police said. The accused was identified as Anil Kumar of Ropari village, Aani tehsil, Kullu district, a driver by profession, Shimla Deputy Superintendent of Police Pramod Shukla said. Anil was arrested after 1.755 kg of charas was recovered from his car near Tara Devi, under Boileauganj Police Station in Shimla, he added. International drug cartel busted in Mumbai; Nigerian arrested

Police Tuesday claimed to have busted an international drug cartel being operated from Mumbai with the arrest of a Nigerian who was allegedly found in possession of cocaine and ephedrine worth nearly Rs 18 lakh. The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the police arrested a 36-year-old Nigerian, John Kennedy, allegedly linked to the cartel, an official said. Kennedy, who stays at Ulwe in adjoining Navi Mumbai, was caught at Andheri in western suburbs with 125 gm of cocaine worth Rs 12.5 lakh and 5.4 kg ephedrine valued at Rs 5.4 lakh, he said. He is a member of an international drugs cartel which was operating out of Mumbai, said Shivdeep Lande, Deputy Commissioner of Police (ANC). 4 of 31 suspected Bangladeshis remanded to police custody

A court in Assam on Tuesday remanded four of the 31 suspected Bangladeshis held from Guwahati railway station in police custody and the remaining adults in judicial custody. The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup, ordered that the children be sent to the children remand home here. The 31 people, including eight women and 13 children, were held at Guwahati railway station on Monday when they were preparing to board Kanchanjunga Express to go to Agartala. They would be produced before the court again on October 20. They were detained after they failed to produce any valid document to prove their Indian citizenship. Woman thrashes manager for allegedly seeking sexual favours

A woman thrashed a bank manager in Karnataka's Davangere district publicly for allegedly seeking sexual favours for sanctioning a loan with the video of the incident going viral Tuesday.
