BJP divided J-K for cronies, used brute majority to rob its people: PDP

The BJP divided the land and resources of Jammu and Kashmir for the benefit of its "cronies" and used brute majority in Parliament to pass laws that disempower the region's people, the Peoples Democratic Party said in its periodical. "Other than dividing up our land and resources for their cronies and using their brute majority in the Parliament to airdrop laws to disempower our people, what has BJP done for us?" the PDP asked in its monthly newsletter SPEAK UP. Delhi HC asks Centre to respond to AAP's plea to allot land for its offices

Delhi High Court on Tuesday sought the Centre's response on a plea by the AAP seeking allotment of land in the national capital for construction of its offices, having been recognised as a national party. Justice Subramonium Prasad issued a notice to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Land and Development Officer, asking them to file their replies to the petition. The court listed the matter for further hearing on March 23. According to the Centre's policies and the fact that land has been allotted to all other national parties for construction of office premises in central locations of New Delhi, it is incumbent upon the respondents to ensure that a similar allotment is made in favour of the petitioner, as per its entitlement, the AAP said in its petition. Govt seeks to withdraw 3 bills on criminal laws, plans to make new ones

The government has decided to withdraw the three bills that aim to replace existing criminal laws and introduce them afresh following various recommendations made by a parliamentary panel. The three redrafted bills are expected to introduced in Parliament on Tuesday. The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on August 11 along with Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam bills. Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad on Monday termed the Supreme Court's verdict on pleas challenging the abrogation of the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution "sad and unfortunate", but said "we have to accept it". "It (the court verdict) is sad and unfortunate," Azad told reporters here. The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said the people of the region are not happy with the verdict delivered by a five-judge bench of the apex court. "But we have to accept it (the verdict)," he added. Security beefed up across Kashmir ahead of SC verdict on Article 370

Security was beefed up across Kashmir on Monday ahead of the Supreme Court's verdict on a batch of petitions challenging the abrogation of the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution that gave a special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
