A Lucknow-bound AIX Connect flight from Bengaluru made an emergency landing at the Kempegowda International Airport here 10 minutes after its takeoff due to a technical issue on Saturday, Air Asia authorities said. According to information received, the flight i5-2472 took off at about 6.45 AM on Saturday and was supposed to land by 9 AM in Lucknow. However, it was grounded minutes after the takeoff. "AIX Connect confirms that i5-2472, scheduled to operate from Bengaluru to Lucknow, encountered a minor technical issue and elected to return to Bengaluru," the AIX Connect spokesperson said. "Alternative arrangements have been made for impacted guests and we are taking steps to minimise impact on other scheduled operations," the spokesperson added.

Rescue personnel drawn from various agencies have been working round the clock since a multi-storey building collapsed in Lucknow Tuesday evening and the hope of pulling out anyone alive from the debris is diminishing by the minute. Two women -- the mother and wife of a Samajwadi Party spokesperson -- have been confirmed dead and two more people are still feared trapped under the debris. More than a dozen people have been rescued so far and admitted to hospitals. The five-storey Alaya Apartments in the Hazratganj area in the national capital collapsed Tuesday evening. Personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are engaged in the rescue work, while senior officials are overseeing the operation. Officiating Director General of Police (DGP) D S Chauhan visited the spot and briefed the media about the rescue operation. Rescue personnel are taking outmost precaution and avoiding the use of heavy machinery to avoid loss of life.

Schools in Lucknow will remain closed from January 4-7 in view of the cold wave conditions, an official order said on Monday. In view of the MeT department issuing a cold wave alert, a holiday has been announced in all government and private schools of urban and rural areas of all boards up to Class 12, an order issued by Lucknow District Magistrate Suryapal Gangwar said. The order will also be applicable on Kasturba Gandhi residential girls schools as well, as on all students, teachers, non-teaching staff (except emergency services), it added.
