Mahindra & Mahindra on Monday expanded its light commercial vehicle (LCV) range with a new product range based on an all new platform developed at an initial investment of Rs 900 crore. The company has introduced "Veero" light commercial vehicle in the less than 3.5 tonne range with both diesel and CNG trims, with price starting at Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom). An electric version of the LCV would be introduced at a later stage. In an interaction with PTI, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) President Automotive Division Veejay Nakra said the model will help the company further strengthen its leadership in the LCV (less than 3.5 tonne) segment. The product, with multiple fuel options and payloads, will be useful for various applications, he added. "We have a market share of around 51 per cent in the less than 3.5 tonne LCV segment... now this range comes in 2-3.5 tonne segment where we have a market share of 63 per cent. Mahindra Group and Israel's Sentrycs Ltd on Friday said they have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore opportunities for developing and providing 'differentiated anti-drone solutions' in India. The solutions will cover civilian and military applications, the two companies said in a joint statement. The MoU relates to the 'anti-drone systems' technology space and will focus on the Transfer of Technology (TOT) and manufacturing of radio frequency-based counter-drone solutions under the government of India's 'Make in India' initiative, it added. Mahindra Group-owned iconic motorcycle brand BSA made its debut in India on Thursday with the launch of 652-cc Gold Star 650 model priced at Rs 2.99 lakh (ex showroom Delhi). One of the oldest motorcycle companies in the world, Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA), was acquired by the Mahindra group's premium motorcycles arm Classic Legends in 2016. Classic Legends sells Jawa and Yezdi motorcycles in the country. Domestic automobile majors Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors have received a record number of patent approvals for a wide spectrum of product and process innovations in the last financial year. Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) received 674 approvals, its best-ever annual performance, while Tata Motors also witnessed the grant of 333 patents during the 2023-24 financial year. M&M said it has received a record 674 patents in 2023-24, with the majority coming in from the Indian Patent office. "We understand the importance of being future-ready; therefore, we have made significant R&D investments to ensure that we stay ahead of the curve in terms of technology and talent," M&M ED & CEO (Auto & Farm Sectors) Rajesh Jejurikar said. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd on Thursday said its total vehicle sales grew 15 per cent year-on-year to 73,944 units in January. The utility vehicle sales stood at 43,068 units in the previous month as against 32,915 vehicles sold in January last year, growing 31 per cent year-on-year, M&M Ltd said. The commercial vehicle domestic sales during the month under review stood at 23,481 units, a growth of 8 per cent over 21,724 units in January 2023. Its three-wheeler domestic sales, including electric three-wheelers, fell 14 per cent to 5,649 units compared to 6,562 vehicles sold in the year-ago period, the company said.

Mahindra Group and global institutional investor Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board have co-sponsored an infrastructure investment trust (InvIT) holding assets of 1.54 GW in the renewable energy space in India. The InvIT, Sustainable Energy Infra Trust (SEIT), is India's largest InvIT in the renewable energy space and has raised primary capital of Rs 1,365 crore as part of the initial offer of units (offer), Mahindra Group said in a statement. Mahindra & Mahindra on Friday said it has been imposed a penalty of Rs 4.12 crore over input tax credit claim and education cess credit balance carry forward from pre-GST regime to GST regime in relation to its two-wheeler business. In a regulatory filing, Mahindra & Mahindra said it has received an order from the office of the Deputy Commissioner, State Tax, Audit Wing, Indore-01, Madhya Pradesh imposing a penalty amounting to Rs 4,11,50,120 to the two-wheeler business of Mahindra Two Wheelers Ltd (MTWL), which was demerged from MTWL and has since been merged with the company. One of the reasons for imposing the penalty is that the "invoices basis which Input Tax Credit (ITC) has been claimed by MTWL are not reported by vendors in GST returns and thus are not appearing in auto populated GSTR-2A".
