The Centre has cleared a Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs-DDA proposal for the construction of the Rithala-Narela-Kundli metro corridor, a Raj Niwas statement said on Saturday. Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena had taken up the construction of this metro corridor with the Centre on various occasions, it said. The Rithala-Narela-Kundli metro corridor will be constructed at a cost of Rs 6,231 crore with the Delhi portion estimated to cost Rs 5,685.22 crore and the Haryana portion Rs 545.77 crore, the statement said. This corridor is planned as an extension of the existing Red Line. Nearly 40 per cent of the cost of the Delhi portion will be borne by the central government. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will be contributing Rs 1,000 crore of the remaining cost while 37.5 per cent of the capital will come from bilateral/multilateral loans and about 20 per cent from the Delhi government, it said. The first driverless metro train comprising six coaches from China arrived in Bengaluru on Wednesday, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited said. These coaches arrived at Hebbagodi depot in Electronic City, the IT hub in South Bengaluru. This train will operate on the Yellow Line of the BMRCL from RV Road to Electronic City via Silk Board. The train and coaches were built by a Chinese firm, which got a contract to build 216 coaches for BMRCL, an official told PTI. We have ordered 216 cars of which 90 will operate on Yellow line forming 15 trains. The one which has arrived is a prototype, the BMRCL official said.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday laid the foundation stone for the Rs 6,225 crore Bhubaneswar Metro Rail project. Before laying the foundation stone at Ratagada Lenka Sahi near Trisulia, Patnaik held a roadshow on the 26 km route of the proposed metro project. People stood on both sides of the road and different groups performed traditional folk dance and music to welcome the chief minister during the roadshow. "Apan Mane Khusi Ta (Are you happy)", Patnaik asked the people gathered on the occasion. "Today (Jan 1, 2024) will remain in the history of Odisha's development. As promised earlier, we are laying the foundation stone of the metro rail project", he said. The first phase of Odisha's proposed metro rail project will cover a distance of around 26 km and have 20 stations, according to the DPR submitted by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had sanctioned the project on April 1, 2023. The first phase will connect Bhubaneswar airport to Trishulia in Cuttack. The DMRC submitted the detailed project report (DPR) to Chief Secretary P K Jena on Wednesday, officials said. The DPR was completed after conducting traffic survey, geo-technical investigation, topographic survey, environmental and social impact assessments, they said. The project will be later extended to Khurda, Puri and other areas of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack city, the officials said.

Mumbai Metro services on the Ghatkopar-Andheri-Versova corridor were disrupted for around 45 minutes on Wednesday evening due to a technical glitch in a train, said the operator of the rapid transit system. Commuters faced inconvenience due to the disruption of services during evening rush hours. Mumbai Metro One, which operates the rapid transit system, said services were affected due to a technical fault in the electrical converter unit of a train. All passengers travelling in the train where the glitch was reported were evacuated at Asalpha station at around 4:45 pm, it said. "The glitch-hit train was withdrawn from service and normal operations resumed at 5:30 pm," a spokesperson for Mumbai Metro One said.
Telecom gear maker HFCL on Wednesday said it bagged a Rs 282.61 crore contract from Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation to deploy communication systems for Surat Metro Rail Project Phase-1. The company has to deploy the project within 90 days from the date of contract. "..the company has bagged an order worth Rs 282.61 crore from Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) Limited, for design, manufacture, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of telecommunication systems for Surat Metro Rail Project Phase-I," the company said in a regulatory filing. Under the contract, HFCL has to provide warranty support for 110 weeks for the system that it will deploy. HFCL has recently won a contract for the integration of communication networks in Kanpur-Agra metro rail project and is currently implementing telecom networks for seven greenfield dedicated freight corridor projects for Indian Railways.
