Fire in Dharavi huts disrupts Harbour line trains, no injuries reported

A major fire broke out in huts close to the Harbour line local train tracks in Dharavi area of Mumbai on Saturday afternoon, leading to the temporary suspension of train services on the affected stretch, officials said. Nobody was injured as per the preliminary information. The fire in the huts located inside the Navrang Compound on the 60-foot road broke out at 12.30 pm. At least four fire engines and other firefighting vehicles reached the spot and launched the firefighting operation, a civic official said. "There is no report of any injuries to anyone," he added. As the fire is very close to the railway tracks, local train services between Bandra and Mahim on the Harbour line have been temporarily suspended, railway officials said. The cause of the fire and the extent of damage are yet to be ascertained. Four killed, 10 injured in fire at Navi Mumbai residential building

Four persons were killed and 10 others suffered injuries after a fire broke out in a multi-storey residential building in Maharashtra's Navi Mumbai township shortly after midnight on Tuesday, police said. Prima facie, the blaze started at around 12.30 am in a flat on the 10th floor of the Raheja Residency, MGM Complex, at Sector 14 in Vashi area, and spread to the 11th and 12th floors, an official said. Two women, a man and a 6-year-old girl were killed, while 10 others were injured, he said. The injured persons were rushed to two hospitals in Vashi. After being alerted, 40 fire brigade personnel along with 8 fire tenders and police rushed to the spot and the blaze was put out by 4 am, the official said. The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, the official said.

Fire breaks out at garment showroom in Mumbai; 8 rescued, none injured

A fire broke out at a garments showroom on the ground floor of a residential building in the Peddar Road area of south Mumbai on Monday morning, civic officials said. While there were no reports of injuries in the blaze, eight people and some pets were rescued from the six-storey building, they said. Officials said the fire erupted around 6.38 am at the showroom on the ground floor of the Shukhshanti building. The fire brigade rescued eight people from the first floor and five animals from the fourth floor of the building. Major fire at Mumbai's Bandra mall doused after 22-hour operation

A major fire that devastated a mall in Mumbai's upscale Bandra area was controlled after more than 22 hours of firefighting, civic officials said on Wednesday. The blaze erupted around 4.10 am on Tuesday in the basement of Link Square Mall on Linking Road in Bandra West and was extinguished at 1.41 am on Wednesday after efforts by fire brigade personnel and other emergency services, the officials said. There was no report of anybody getting injured, they said. Initially confined to an electronics goods showroom, the flames quickly engulfed the upper floors of the three-storey mall, which houses over 200 commercial establishments and shops, and completely gutted it. Major fire at electronics goods showroom in Mumbai; 12 fire engines on spot

A major fire broke out in a building housing an electronics goods showroom in the suburban Bandra area early on Tuesday, officials said and added there were no immediate reports of any injuries. This is second major early-morning blaze in the metropolis in two days. On Sunday, a major fire broke out in a building housing the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in the Ballard Estate area. The officials said Tuesday's fire was reported in the multistorey building at Linking Road in the Bandra West area around 4:10 am. A civic official said the blaze was confined in the building's basement. Twelve fire engines and other firefighting vehicles are at the spot and efforts are underway to douse the flames, the official added. The fire brigade escalated the blaze to Level III, indicating a more severe category, around 4:49 am. The civic official said other agencies were also mobilised and added the cause of the fire was not yet known.

Fire breaks out at ED office in Mumbai, important govt files destroyed

A major blaze broke out at the Enforcement Directorate's office building in south Mumbai in the early hours of Sunday, and the firefighting operations have continued for more than six hours, officials said. There were no reports of casualties in the fire that broke out at the Kaiser-I-Hind building in the Ballard Estate area, they said. Officials said the blaze, which started on the fourth floor of the five-storey building housing the ED office around 2.31 am, has continued to rage despite efforts. Firefighters are struggling to bring the blaze under control, a fire brigade official said. Mumbai Fire Bridge upgraded the fire to Level III at around 4.17 am, which is generally considered a major fire. At least eight fire engines, six jetties, water tankers and other equipment have been deployed to the spot. Three injured as leaking gas pipeline catches fire in Mumbai's Andheri area

Three persons suffered burn injuries after a leaking gas pipeline caught fire on a road in Mumbai's Andheri area early on Sunday, an official said. Two vehicles were also damaged in the incident, he said. The Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) in a statement later said the pipeline was damaged due to the "JCB impact during unauthorised, uncontrolled digging". The blaze erupted at 12.35 am in a heavily leaking supply pipeline of the MGL, passing through the middle of a road at Sher-E-Punjab society near a gurdwara at Takshila in Andheri (East) area, a fire official said earlier in the day. A fire broke out in the basement of the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) underground metro station in Mumbai on Friday afternoon, prompting the authorities to suspend the train services there, officials said. One injured, 30 rescued in major fire at high-rise in Mumbai's Byculla

A 57-year-old man was injured while 25 to 30 persons were rescued after a fire broke out in a 62-storey residential building in south Mumbai's Byculla area around midnight, officials said on Sunday. The blaze erupted in a flat on the 10th floor of the Monte South building's A wing in the Khatao Mill Compound in Byculla at 11.42 pm on Saturday, a fire official said, adding smoke filled the entire floor. Breaking the gender barrier, 26-year-old Meghana Sakpal is set to become the first woman to join Pune Municipal Corporation's (PMC) fire brigade department. Firefighting seems to run in her family as her grandfather was a fireman and her father, Mahendra Sakpal, currently serves as a fire personnel. "I grew up listening to the tales of my grandfather's and father's heroic feats during firefighting in the city. They inspired me. I am very proud that I am the first woman to join the fire department of the Pune corporation," Meghana told PTI on Thursday. Until now, only Mumbai had women firefighters in Maharashtra. A commerce graduate, Meghana began to prepare for her dream job in 2019. After clearing online examinations and physical tests, she went to Mumbai for training, which was briefly interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. But she completed the training in November 2022. One dead as fire breaks out at timber market in Grant road, South Mumbai

A 50-year-old man was charred to death as a major fire broke out at a timber market in South Mumbai in the early hours of Friday, a civic official said. The fire, which started in the 'Lakda Bazar' located in Chor Bazaar locality of Grant Road area around 2 am, was doused after nearly ten hours. The fire brigade categorised it as 'level four' (major). The deceased, whose body was found during the rescue operation, was identified as Dhanshyam Prajapati. Six injured as 5 houses collapse after gas cylinder explosion in Mumbai

Six persons were injured as five houses collapsed after a gas cylinder exploded in one of them in Chembur area of Mumbai on Wednesday morning, following which 11 people were rescued, civic officials said. The incident took place at 7.50 am at Old Barrack near Golf Club in Chembur area. "A gas cylinder exploded in a house, leading to the collapse of five two-storey structures," a civic official said. Six persons, including a 47-year-old woman, were injured in the incident. All of them were admitted to the nearby Shatabdi Hospital. Fire erupts in Mumbai high-rise residential building; 135 people rescued

A fire broke out in a 24-storey residential building in Mumbai on Thursday following which at least 135 people were safely rescued from there, civic officials said. The blaze erupted at 3.40 am on the third floor of the building located in New Hind Mill Compound at MHADA colony in Ghodapdeo area where government has given flats to people, mainly mill workers, they said. The fire was confined to the electric meter cabin, wiring, cable, scrap material in the electric duct, garbage and material in garbage duct from 1st to 24th floor of the building, a civic official said. He said at least 135 people were safely rescued from different floors of the building.
