Family members of NZ players announce WC squad in heart-warming video

It's not just "pitched" battle on 22 yards that fans care about these days but equally important is the virtual presence, where New Zealand Cricket's social media team grabbed eyeballs with its unique concept of announcing the team for the upcoming World Cup. "Our 2023 @cricketworldcup squad introduced by their number 1 fans!" BlackCaps captioned the video posted on 'X' (formerly twitter), where family members of the New Zealand players introduced their dear ones with jersey number. Among the run of the mill content that one comes across in the name of social media battles, the video comes across as cute, warm and sincere, where Kane Williamson's family, Trent Boult's sons, Rachin Ravindra's parents and Jimmy Neesham's grandmother. The Kiwi side will once again be led by Kane Williamson, who has struggled with a ruptured ACL since March this year and remains doubtful for the tournament openers against defending champion England. The side finished as the runner-up during the last ..

ENG vs NZ: New Zealand tie T20 series 2-2, win final match by 6 wickets

New Zealand completed its comeback from 2-0 down to tie the Twenty20 series against England by winning the fourth and final match by six wickets on Tuesday. Set a victory target of 176 at Trent Bridge, the New Zealanders had a 32-ball 48 from opener Tim Seifert before Glenn Phillips accelerated the middle part of the chase with 42 off 25 balls. Mark Chapman (40 not out off 25) saw the tourists over the line with 16 balls left to cap a sharp turnaround in the series that England started so well with heavy wins in Durham and Manchester. New Zealand hammered England by 74 runs in Birmingham on Sunday to stay alive in the series and dominated the fourth match after dismissing Jonny Bairstow (73 off 41 runs, including six sixes), who gave England a fast start. From 105-1 early in the 11th over, England lost momentum following the removal of Bairstow and sputtered to 175-8, which always felt too little on a ground known for producing big totals. The teams now meet in a four-match one-da

ODI World Cup: NZ employ Fleming, Foster, Bell as part of coaching staff

New Zealand have roped in the services of former skipper Stephen Fleming and the English duo of Ian Bell and James Foster as part of their coaching staff in the lead up to the ODI World Cup in India. Both Fleming and former wicketkeeper Foster come with IPL coaching experience that may help the Black Caps during the World Cup, starting October 5. Fleming has been coaching the Chennai Super Kings for over a decade and has guided the MS Dhoni-led side to five IPL titles. He will join the Black Caps for the ODI series against England after finishing his duties with the Southern Brave men in The Hundred next month. "I think Flem will be great for players on that side of it and also good for the staff as well," New Zealand head coach Gary Stead was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo. "He's got immense amount of knowledge in that part of the world [India] and has coached in the IPL right from the start of the competition, so he's coached in all those areas where we're going to play in. Ashwin calls UAE's win over New Zealand a big impact of franchise cricket

Star India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Sunday hailed United Arab Emirates (UAE)'s stunning win over New Zealand in a T20I, saying it underlines the impact of franchise cricket and gives hopes to next generation of cricketers from non-Test playing nations. UAE on Saturday registered their maiden win over New Zealand, humbling the Kiwis by seven wickets in the second T20I in Dubai. "UAE beating New Zealand is a big achievement and it's also showing us what franchisee cricket has succeeded in doing," Ashwin wrote in a post in social media platform 'X', formerly twitter. "There is hope for the next generation cricketer coming from countries that aren't mainstream test nations and that's good news for the game." Opting to bow, UAE restricted New Zealand to 142-8 and then overhauled the target, scoring 144 for 3 in 15.4 overs with skipper Muhammad Waseem (55) and Asif Khan (48) steering the chase. Giving Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan's example, Ashwin hoped more players will join I

World Cup: New Zealand to tour Bangladesh for three ODIs for preparations

New Zealand will tour Bangladesh for the first time in 10 years, when they travel to the country for a split ODI and Test series in September and November. The three-match ODI series will be the dress rehearsal for the two teams ahead of the World Cup in India. The World Cup begins with last edition's runners-up New Zealand taking on defending champions England in Ahmedabad in a repeat of the 2019 final. Bangladesh begin their World Cup journey against Afghanistan on October 7 in Dharamsala. As per the itinerary unveiled by the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Thursday, the tour is set to commence on September 21. All three ODIs are scheduled to take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. The Test series is scheduled to start in late November following the conclusion of the World Cup. The venues for both Tests will be announced later. The second leg of the tour will be part of the ICC World Test Championship cycle. The red-ball clashes will take place after th

NZ pacer Trent Boult keen to lift World Cup after misses in 2015, 2019

Trent Boult went through the misery of being part of the New Zealand teams that finished as runners-up in two successive World Cups -- 2015 and 2019, and now the pacer does not want another chance to go begging later this year in India. New Zealand were beaten by Australia in the 2015 final, and the Kiwis could not go past England four years later. "I have always had this in the back of my mind to come back and work towards an ODI World Cup. There's history involved there. The times we have had in previous campaigns have been very exciting. "So, (I am) just hungry to get involved, and hopefully play a big role. I'm just thinking about lifting something shiny that we were pretty close to four years ago. That's the biggest focus," Boult was quoted as saying in ESPNCricinfo. Boult returned to the New Zealand ODI squad after a hiatus of one year for the series against England. Boult had also given up his national contract to focus more on T20 franchise cricket. "It wasn't an easy dec

ODI World Cup: New Zealand haven't ruled out Williamson from their plans

New Zealand have not ruled out the recovering Kane Williamson from the ODI World Cup in India even if it means missing the first few fixtures. Head coach Gary Stead and the team management are optimistic about Williamson's recovery. The star batter hasn't played any cricket since March when he ruptured the ACL in his right knee while fielding for Gujarat Titans. He underwent surgery in April and has recently begun training and batting in the nets. The 33-year-old is also set to link up with the team during its series against England next month ahead of the World Cup. "Kane's working on a day-by-day, week-by-week process and we've been really clear and careful with him that we don't look too far ahead and get expectations too big or not big enough at times as well," Stead told reporters on Wednesday. "We will take every measure we can to make sure that we get the medical advice that lines up and he's where we want him to be before we make that call on whether he goes (to India for
