The National Highways Infra Trust (NHAI InvIT) has raised Rs 1,430 crore from domestic and international investors, through placement of its units, for part funding its acquisition of three road projects from NHAI, an official statement said. NHAI InvIT is the infrastructure investment trust sponsored by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to support the government's National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP). Busting a major corruption racket at the Patna regional office of the National Highways Authority of India, the CBI on Friday arrested four persons, including a chief general manager and a deputy general manager, in a Rs 5 lakh bribery case, officials said. Chief General Manager Sadre Alam and DGM Prabhanshu Shekhar posted at the NHAI regional office were arrested by the CBI for allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from executives of the Nashik-based Ashoka Buildcon Limited -- Amit Kumar Gupta and Mukul Kumar -- they said. The arrests were followed by searches at eight locations, including the residences of the accused officials and the private executives and offices of the company. During the searches, the CBI recovered Rs 70 lakh in cash, including the bribe amount, and property documents from the residential premises of Alam. Army begins construction of Bailey Bridge on Bhopal-Nagpur highway: Officer

The Indian Army has started the construction of 90-feet-long Bailey Bridge over Sukhtawa river, which collapsed in April due to heavy vehicular traffic, an official said on Saturday. As per an official release, the engineers of Sudarshan Chakra Corps of the Southern Command, who were mobilised from Bhopal, commenced the construction of the bridge on Bhopal-Nagpur National Highway 46 near Narmadapuram. The 145-year-old bridge had collapsed in April due to heavy vehicle traffic, and the state administration had requisitioned the Army to construct bridge and restore traffic, it was stated. Meanwhile, a diversion built to sustain heavy traffic on Sukhtawa river also got submerged multiple times amid heavy rains, thus cutting off the crucial lifeline. Over the last three months, the Engineer Regiment from Sabse Behtar Brigade along with Madhya Pradesh authorities and the NHAI worked on war footing for early construction of the bridge, the release said.
