New cyber crime trend unravelled in UP, woman held under 'digital arrest'

The Uttar Pradesh Police has launched an investigation after a Noida resident found herself at the receiving end of a new cyber fraud trend, wherein she was duped of more than Rs 11 lakh and held under "digital arrest" for a day, officials said on Saturday. This is the first case in the new trend of "digital arrest fraud" lodged at the Cyber Crime police station in Noida. The thugs posed as police officials who mentioned the names of an IPS officer in the CBI and the founder of a grounded airline, associating the 50-year-old victim in a fictitious money-laundering case. A similar case was recently reported in Haryana's Faridabad where cyber thugs, posing as police personnel, got a woman "digitally arrested" for more than a week after convincing her that her personal IDs were used for illegal activities. Luxury realtor Bhutani Infra on Monday said all retail spaces in its new project Avenue 133 -- a mall in Noida Sector 133 -- were sold out within 12 hours of its launch. Industry sources said the sale of retail space in phase one of Avenue 133 has fetched over Rs 1,000 crore for the real estate developer, with price ranging from Rs 24,000 sq ft to Rs 40,000 sq ft. With a huge crowd expected during the weekend to witness MotoGP race, Gautam Buddh Nagar traffic officials on Saturday said only those private cabs will be allowed inside Buddh International Circuit in which the customers have a pass for the event. Cabs like Uber, Ola, InDrive would drop the customers having race passes inside the BIC and leave. However, taxis hired for longer durations could stay in the parking areas at the venue and pick up the customer after the race, a senior official said. The race will take place at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) along the Yamuna Expressway in the Dankaur area, over 50 km off New Delhi. The police have already enforced diversions for commercial vehicles entering Noida via DND or Greater Noida via Yamuna Expressway in order to reduce congestion on key roads for Saturday and Sunday. Vehicles carrying essential goods will face no restriction between 12 am and 6 am, 12 pm and 3 pm while there are no restrictions on movement of ambulances.
