The government has sought feedback from the industry on the production linked incentive (PLI) scheme with a view to enhancing its effectiveness, according to an official statement issued on Wednesday. The commerce and industry ministry, which coordinates the scheme, also urged PLI beneficiaries to take up any procedural challenges/ issues with the respective implementing ministry or department so that positive reforms can be brought about and the scheme can be made more efficient and effective. Issues pertaining to the scheme were discussed in a workshop called by the Commerce and Industry Ministry on June 27 here. India and the US have agreed to discuss New Delhi's demand for restoration of GSP benefits to domestic exporters and now both sides will commence discussions to find a solution, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Friday. The previous Trump administration in the US revoked the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) from India in 2019. The GSP allows eligible developing countries to export duty-free goods to the US. About 1,900 Indian products from sectors such as chemicals and engineering were getting duty-free access to the US market under the GSP, introduced in 1976. He also said that businesses of both regions should look at increasing bilateral trade beyond the target of USD 200 billion by 2030. The bilateral trade at present is about USD 100 billion. India can also look for negotiating a free trade agreement with Africa to further strengthen economic ties, he said. Discussions between the central banks of India and UAE on promoting bilateral trade in the rupee and dirham to reduce transaction cost is progressing at a "very" fast pace, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Monday.
