Condolences poured in from across party lines for Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who passed away at his private residence in Panaji on Sunday evening after a prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 63.

BSP chief Mayawati campaigning for SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav at his home turf would be an insult to the socialist stalwart, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said Sunday. "Recently I came across new reports that BSP chief Mayawati may campaign and seek vote for SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav in SP stronghold Mainpuri," said Maurya. Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of politicising the Pulwama terror attack, NCP chief Sharad Pawar Sunday said he had suggested to give "all powers" to armed forces to destroy terror camps in the all-party meeting held in Delhi on February 15. Indian Air Force conducted air strikes on a terror camp in Balakot in Pakistan on February 26, twelve days after 40 CRPF jawans were killed in Pulwama in a suicide bomber attack. Pawar further said the prime minister skipped the meeting and attended a political rally in Yavatmal in Maharashtra. Chinese Ambassador to India Luo Zhaohui Sunday exuded confidence of resolving the sticky issue of designating Masood Azhar as a global terrorist through consultations, days after China blocked a fresh move at the UN to ban the Jaish-e-Mohammed chief. "I am quite sure this matter (listing of Azhar by the UN) will be resolved. This is only a technical hold and the matter can be resolved through continued consultation," Luo said on the sidelines of an event at the Chinese embassy. The envoy said China understands India's concerns on the issue, and was optimistic of resolving it. "We are optimistic that this matter will be resolved." Lok Sabha polls: Cong calls off seat-sharing deal with Left Front in Bengal
The West Bengal unit of the Congress on Sunday called off seat-sharing talks with the CPI(M)-led Left Front for Lok Sabha polls, after weeks of hectic parleys failed to resolve the impasse over distribution of seats. "It has been decided by our party unit that we don't want any adjustment or alliance by compromising our dignity. The Left can't dictate us on who will be candidate and who won't. We will fight it alone in Bengal," state Congress chief Somen Mitra said after a party meet here. The Congress was miffed at the CPI(M) announcing the list of its 25 candidates in the state, and had expressed the party's displeasure over the Left Front not respecting the rules of alliance. West Bengal, which sends 42 members to Lok Sabha, will now witness a four-cornered contest between the Trinamool Congress, the BJP, the Left Front and the Congress.
