PM to attend one-year celebrations of BJP govt in HP: CM

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said Friday Prime Minister Narendra Modi would attend the December 27 celebrations to mark one-year of the state government. The mark the occasion a mega event would be organised in Dharamshala in Kangra district, he said after a meeting in Shimla to review the arrangements for the programme. He said beneficiaries of various state schemes would also be invited to attend the function. Beneficiaries of central schemes would also attend the event, the chief minister said. Officials said achievements of the state government would also be highlighted during the function.

Children don't want to take up farming seeing our plight: Farmers

Several farmers, who took part at a protest here Friday rued that their children do not want to take up farming seeing their parents plight, as protestors raised slogans to protect "farming legacy". Dubbed as the largest farmers' protest and congregation in Delhi, around 35,000 farmers, from across India, converged at the Parliament Street police station Thursday after their march was stopped by the administration. They are in the national capital to press for their demands, including debt relief and remunerative prices for their produce. Ramaswami Sella Perumal, a farmer from Tamil Nadu, who had undertaken a 36-hour long journey, and was wearing two skulls of his relative who had allegedly committed suicide, said he has two children, who are studying. AP govt leaked info to trap corrupt officials: CBI

The CBI Friday accused the Andhra Pradesh government of leaking secret information to trap some corrupt officials, saying this resulted in nabbing of just one person, while the others escaped. Enraged by its planned operation to trap the corrupt central government officers getting ruined by state anti-corruption bureau (ACB) half-baked action, the CBI said it had asked the Andhra home department to treat the information with utmost secrecy. The turf war between the central agency and the state government became public when the ACB claimed the arrest of a central excise officer when he was allegedly taking a bribe in Machilipatnam district on Friday. Bombay HC dismisses Sanjay Nirupam's plea against BJP MP

The Bombay High Court on Friday dismissed a petition filed by Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam challenging the election of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Gopal Shetty from Mumbai North constituency in 2014 Lok Sabha polls. With passage of Maratha quota bill, recruitment to resume: CM

A day after the Maharashtra legislature passed a bill providing 16 per cent reservation to the Marathas, Chief MInister Devendra Fadnavis told the Assembly Friday that a mega recruitment drive to fill vacant posts in the government will be started soon. In August, Fadnavis hadannounced that the government would put on hold recruitment in 72,000 government posts till the Maratha community gets reservation. Subsequently, the State Backward Class Commission (SBCC) submitted its reporton social and educational backwardness of the Maratha community on November 15 and the bill providing quota to the community was passed unanimously Thursday.

Swaraj meets Gabon's foreign minister; discuss bilateral ties

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj Friday met with Regis Immongault, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Gabon during which the two discussed ways to strengthen the bilateral ties, an official statement said. During the meeting, both the sides discussed issues of bilateral and regional interest including combating terrorism and development partnership, the statement by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said. The importance of enhancement of bilateral trade and investment was also emphasised in the meeting. The two sides agreed to identify priority projects in the areas of mutual cooperation to be undertaken with the support of Government of India's concessional lines of credit, it said. Maharashtra govt to implement 7th Pay Commission from Jan 1

The Maharashtra Government will implement the Seventh Pay Commission from January 1, 2019, for which the state treasury will have to bear an additional burden of Rs 40,000 crore. Minister of State for Finance Deepak Kesarkar made this announcement in the Legislative Council. He was replying a question by MLC Kapil Patil during Question Hour. State government and semi-government employees and teachers had gone on a strike over the issue on August 9. Kesarkar said the government had appointed a committee headed by retired bureaucrat K P Bakshi over this issue. "However, the government will not wait for the report and the implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission will commence from January 2019," the minister said. He told reporters later that it will put an additional burden of Rs 40,000 crore on the government treasury.
