Cong trying to shift focus from development agenda in poll-bound Raj: Gajendra Singh

Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat Monday claimed the Congress was trying to shift the focus of the upcoming assembly elections from the development agenda as it does not have any issue to work with. "The Congress doesn't want the country to remain on the development path. Due to corrupt and unclear policies of the Congress, the country has suffered," Shekhawat said at a press conference here. The BJP state election committee convener said the Congress' character was exposed through its infightings that have come out in the open. J-K Governor expresses grief over demise of Iqbal Khanday

Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik has expressed grief over the demise of former chief secretary of the state Iqbal Khanday who passed away aged 63 in Srinagar on Monday after battling cancer. The Governor in his condolence message described Khanday as an able administrator who worked with dedication for public welfare. He prayed for peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family in its hour of grief. A condolence meeting was convened in the civil secretariat here to mourn Khanday's demise. JKLF chairman Malik detained on Panchayat poll eve

Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik was detained Monday ahead of the second phase of the ongoing panchayat elections in the state. Malik was taken into custody from the JKLF headquarters in Abi Guzar area of the city here, a JKLF spokesman said. The police raided JKLF office this afternoon and took Malik into custody, he said. He said the JKLF chairman was detained in connection with the so-called panchayat elections. The second phase of the nine-phase polls is being conducted Tuesday. Malik and other separatists Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq have called for a boycott of the polls.

118 Helicopter Unit, Air Defence College to be awarded

The 118 Helicopter Unit and the Air Defence College would be awarded the prestigious Standard and Colours awards respectively and President Ram Nath Kovind will give away the awards here later this month, a senior Indian Air Force official said on Monday. The 118 Helicopter Unit was raised in 1971 and is known for carrying the VVIPs of the country. The Air Defence College (ADC) is a premier officer training establishment of the Indian Air Force specialising in operational training. The selection of the President's Colours to the institute coincides with its diamond jubilee year. Announcing the names of the recipients, Eastern Air Command's Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief Air Marshal Raghunath Nambiar said, "These are for the recognition of sustained dedication, professionalism and contribution during war and peace time." Cong demands probe after CBI officer's claim

The Congress Monday demanded an independent probe into the corruption allegations made by a CBI DIG in an affidavit before the Supreme Court, saying they have raised questions on the functioning of Prime Minister's Office and the Modi Government. The party also said it would raise the issue in Parliament. Stirring a fresh controversy, posters showing India's map without Jammu and Kashmir were put up on the campus of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). Indo-US joint military exercise 'Vajra Prahar' commences in Jaipur

The 12-day long joint military exercise between India and the United States known as 'Vajra Prahar' commenced in Jaipur on Monday.A contingent of the United States Pacific Commander arrived at Mahajan Field Firing Ranges on November 18 for undertaking Joint training with the Indian Special Forces.The US contingent comprises of one officer and 10 other ranks from the Special Forces Group, informed Rajasthan Defence PRO Lt Col Sombhit Ghosh.The United States Special Forces will carry out rigorous joint training in semi-desert and rural terrain to enhance the interoperability of the two armed forces and further the military to military co-operation.The contingents will train on different aspects including hostage rescue, building intervention, desert survival, medical aid and combat firing.Lastly, the Special Forces will undertake a three-day outdoor exercise to validate their practices.
