Lakhs visit Bankey Bihari temple in Mathura on Hindola Utsav

Lakhs of pilgrims paid obeisance to the principal deity of the famed Bankey Behari temple on Hindola Utsav in Vrindavan till nearly midnight on Tuesday. "Owing to foolproof arrangements followed by extension in the timings of the temple, over two lakh pilgrims paid obeisance to the deity, without any untoward incident," DM Sarvagya Ram Mishra said. The temple complex was reverberating with excitement from morning till evening, Gyanendra Goswami, a sevakar at the temple said. "Next year I will pay obeisance with my family," said Dr Shailendra who was encouraged by the new arrangements made. Shailendra had come with his friends this time. Hindola Utsav would continue upto Raksha Bandhan in other temples of Vrindavan, however, in Behari Ji temple, it would come only next year the festival in this temple is observed only for a day on Hariyali Teej, said Shashank Goswami, another sewakar.

Pakistan: Slogan shouting against PTI in assembly

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) members on Wednesday raised slogans in the National Assembly against Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which has bagged maximum seats in the recently-concluded general elections.The opposition staged a protest against alleged rigging of elections on July 25.The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan official Marvi Sirmed tweeted, "Lota fauj na manzoor, LotoN ki fauj namanzoor. Slogans being raised by PMLN members on the floor of the House #NA. Protesting against massive rigging plotted by permanent powers."The protest and slogan shouting took place after PTI's Asad Qaiser was elected as the Speaker of the National Assembly. 146th birth anniversary of Aurobindo observed

People from various parts of the country thronged the Aurobindo Ashram here to pay homage to the saint philosopher on the occasion of his 146th birth anniversary today. Devotees sat in meditation before the memorials of Aurobindo and his spiritual collaborator The Mother (Mira Alfasa). Visitors were also allowed into the room of the philosopher on the premises of the Ashram established by him in 1926. Aurobindo carried out his spiritual experiments in the room for several years. Special arrangements were made by the management of the Ashram for the convenience of the people.

Journalists assaulted at Jalandhar Bishop's house

Several mediapersons from Kerala were allegedly assaulted by a group of private security guards at the Bishop House in Jalandhar in Punjab today. The Delhi-based journalists were in Jalandhar to report on the police investigation and questioning of Roman Catholic Bishop Franco Mulakkal, who had allegedly abused his position and repeatedly raped a nun from Kerala. According to some of the journalists, the guards manhandled them and damaged their cameras and equipment while they were capturing the visuals of Bishop Mulakkal who had just returned to his headquarters from Chandigarh. No official comment was immediately available on the alleged assault of journalists. A special team of Kerala Police earlier reached the Bishop House to question the Bishop but was unable to do so since he was in Chandigarh. UP Madrasas directed to hoist National Flag on Independence Day

Ahead of the 72nd Independence Day, the Uttar Pradesh government on Monday issued instructions to all the madrasas (Islamic schools) across the state to hoist the national flag and pay homage to all the freedom fighters.The decision has been taken to inculcate patriotism among students.The state government's order came two days after the Uttar Pradesh Shia Waqf Board mandated reciting 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' slogan during the Independence Day programmes to be held on Waqf properties on August 15.In an order issued on Saturday, Waqf board warned of "strict action" in case the directive was not complied with.Last year, the Yogi Adityanath-led government was criticised after it directed the madrasas to hoist the national flag and ordered the madrasas to make a video of the event in addition.However, the state government has not asked the madrasas to make videos this year.In 2017, a Muslim cleric had opposed the government orders making it mandatory for madrasas to unfurl national flag and ..

UP man barred from offering Namaz for participating in Kanwar Yatra

A Muslim man was prevented from offering Namaz in a mosque in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat district on grounds of participating in the recently-concluded Kanwar Yatra.The Baghpat local, Babu Khan, went to Haridwar to fetch water from the holy river Ganga as part of the Yatra. Some Dera men planned to 'eliminate' Sikh preacher Baljit Daduwal: SIT

Some Dera Sacha Sauda followers had allegedly planned to 'eliminate' Sikh preacher Baljit Singh Daduwal, according to a report prepared by Punjab police's Special Investigation Team, probing sacrilege incidents. The contents of the SIT report were today shared with media by AAP MLAs Sukhpal Singh Khaira and Kanwar Sandhu here. SIT chairman Ranbir Singh Khatra, who is also the DIG of Ludhiana Range, submitted his report in the month of June to the Justice (retd) Ranjit Singh Commission which was constituted to investigate various incidents of sacrilege of the Guru Granth Sahib and other religious texts. In the report, the SIT mentioned that sacrilege incidents which took place in Faridkot district in 2015 were the "result of a conspiracy hatched by some Dera Sacha Sauda followers."
