During SC hearing, objection raised to public statements on temple construction
In a hearing on the Babri Masjid-Ramjanmabhoomi dispute in the Supreme Court, the counsel for the Muslim petitioners to the suit on Tuesday took objection to the statements by certain Hindutva leaders that a temple will be constructed in Ayodhya even while the top court was seized of the matter.
Chinese county bans 'wrongly educated' monks in India from teaching Buddhism
A Chinese county has banned Tibetan Monks "wrongly educated" in India from teaching Buddhism, fearing that they may spread "separatist" content, according to a state-run media report. "Monks wrongly educated in India are banned from teaching Buddhism to residents of Litang county in Southwest China's Sichuan Province," state-run Global Times quoted an official as saying yesterday. The county conducts patriotic education classes every year for those educated and awarded Gexe Lharampa - the highest academic degree in Tibetan Buddhist studies - in India, an official from Litang's ethnic and religious affairs bureau told the paper. Those who behaved improperly at the patriotic classes or showed "any signs of separatist intent" are strictly monitored and banned from teaching Buddhism to the public, the official said. Appropriate bench in SC to hear plea against 'un-Islamic' flags hoisting
The Supreme Court today said a plea seeking a ban on hoisting of green flags with crescent and star at buildings and religious places would be heard by an "appropriate bench". The petition came up for hearing before a bench comprising Justices N V Ramana and S Abdul Nazeer, which said the matter has to be listed before a bench which has been assigned to hear public interest litigation (PILs). "We do not have the roster of PILs," Justice Ramana told the counsel appearing for the petitioner. "List before an appropriate bench," the bench said in its order. Syed Waseem Rizvi, the chairman of Uttar Pradesh Shia Central Board of Waqfs, has claimed in his plea that during his visit to Mumbai and other places in India, he saw flags on several buildings and religious structures which were allegedly a cause of tension between Hindu and Muslim communities. President Ram Nath Kovind visited the Brahma temple and the dargah of Sufi Saint Hazarat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in Rajasthan's Ajmer today. The president arrived here yesterday for a two-day visit. During Kovind's visit to the dargah, he received the Bhagawad Gita from Deewan Zainul Abedin Ali Khan. Khan said that service to the nation should be given the first and foremost priority and the holy book of Gita says that one should perform Karma and not desire for the results. "The gift was aimed at giving a message of harmony to the followers of all the religions in the country from the Ajmer dargah," Nasiruddin Chisti, the elder son of Khan, said. Haryana Waqf Board says identifying properties for Friday namaz
Haryana Waqf Board has decided to allow Muslims to offer the Friday namaz on its properties to end a controversy that began after Hindutva outfits opposed prayers outdoors in Gurgaon, it said today. A few people disrupted the Friday prayers a few weeks ago in Gurgaon, saying namaz should be offered only in mosques. Muslim groups say there are not enough mosques in the city. The board said it has started identifying properties and found 20 in Gurgaon where Muslims can offer Friday namaz. Some of these properties are encroached upon, however. "We are identifying our properties in the state where Friday prayers can be offered. In Gurgaon, we have found 20. Some of these have been encroached upon but were working with the administration to get them removed," Rahish Khan, the board's chairman, told PTI-Bhasha.
