2 held for making derogatory remarks against Hindu gods, PM Modi

Two people were arrested for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Hindu gods, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in a video posted on a social networking site, police said today. Acting swiftly on a complaint filed by Dharam Dev Singh, a case was registered against the four accused persons under section 295 A of the IPC (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and IT Act. "Four people (Saahil, Indal Kumar, Anil and Sunny Kumar) of Lavai Patti Satahva village had made derogatory remarks against Hindu gods, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in a video, which was uploaded on Facebook and shared on WhatsApp," Superintendent of police Anil Kumar said. "Two of the four accused were arrested yesterday. They have been identified as Anil and Sunny Kumar," he said. The video was uploaded on Facebook almost five days ago, the SP said.

S Korea Catholic church apologises over sex abuse accusation

South Korea's Catholic church today apologised to a woman who accused a priest of sexual abuse and attempted rape during a trip to a mission in South Sudan. Kim Min-Kyung took the rare step of appearing on television news last week to accuse the priest of sexually abusing her during their trip to the country in 2011. Kim, a volunteer who helped build a school and medical clinics in South Sudan, said the priest repeatedly tried to rape her, at one point breaking into her room at night. "He pinned me down so that I couldn't move and said 'I can't control my body anymore. Please understand me,'" Kim told KBS TV station, saying she managed to flee the room. Kim said she had reported the incidents to other priests at the mission but received little help, and had previously decided to keep silent "for the sake of the church and the mission". Mines department surveyor caught accepting bribe in Vizag

A surveyor in the Mines and Geology department here was caught today for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000, Anti-Corruption Bureau officials said. Deputy Superintendent of Police KR Prasad said surveyor DA Murali Krishna had demanded the bribe in return for recommending a gravel quarry in the name of the complainant in Revada village here. China denies arson in Tibetian temple fire

China has denied arson as the cause of a fire at a Tibetian Buddhist temple in Lhasa, its state media reported on Thursday.The report further said that the Buddha statue did not suffer any damage.According to Xinhua, the fire broke out last week on the second floor of the Jokhang Temple.
