Rift between KCR-led BRS govt and Telangana governor surfaces again

The differences between the BRS government and Raj Bhavan in Telangana came to fore once again on Thursday with Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao staying away from the Republic Day celebrations held at Raj Bhavan here. Soundararajan, who assumed office as Governor in 2019, has been accusing the state government of not adhering to protocol with regard to her office. However, the ruling BRS has denied the charge and said prior to her appointment as the Governor, she was president of BJP in Tamil Nadu, and was using the constitutional post to indulge in politics. Asked what the Constitution says about CM attending the Republic Day event and others, legal expert and former Central Information Commissioner Madabhushi Sridhar Acharyulu stated that these are conventions which need to be followed by all to maintain the dignity of the occasion. Myopic mindset: Punjab CM Mann slams centre for excluding state's tableau

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday slammed the BJP-led Union government for deliberately excluding his state's tableau from the Republic Day parade, saying it reflects the myopic mindset of those in power at the Centre. He further said the celebration of any national day without showcasing the contribution of Punjab is unimaginable. Today at the national parade which is taking place in Delhi, Punjab's tableau is not there. Why Punjab's tableau was not there, he asked. It is the result of bad intention, he said while targeting the BJP. It reflects the myopic mindset of those in power at the Centre, he alleged. Earlier, on Wednesday Mann had hit out at the BJP-led Centre for not including the State's tableau for the Republic Day parade

Relaxed security situation in Srinagar on India's 74th Republic Day

Security arrangements were eased in Srinagar city on Republic Day with fewer check posts set up in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, while in a rare break from practice, internet services were not suspended on Thursday. Security forces were deployed in adequate numbers on the roads leading to the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium , the venue of main function in the valley, but the concertina wires that used to block the intersections in the city were missing, officials said. Check posts were set up at very few places in the city, allowing for free movement of people and vehicles. Suspension of mobile phone and internet services on Republic Day and Independence Day have been part of the security drill in the Valley since 2005 when terrorists used a mobile phone to trigger an IED blast near the venue of Independence Day celebrations.
