Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has instructed the Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited officials to quickly get the traffic studies and detailed project reports done for the revised Airport Metro alignment via the Old City and from LB Nagar here. Reddy, who reviewed Phase-II of Hyderabad Metro Rail proposals, on Tuesday directed that the Airport Metro plan of the earlier (BRS) government from Raidurg to Shamshabad Airport (31 km; proposed to cost Rs 6,250 crore) shall be kept on hold as already a very wide Outer Ring Road (ORR) is available, according to an official release. Instead, Airport Metro connectivity shall be planned from MGBS via Old city, and from LB Nagar, duly bridging the remaining gap of five km from Nagole to LB Nagar Metro stations, he said. A delegation of Taiwan-based contract manufacturer Foxconn on Tuesday met Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy who assured them the required support for the operations of its manufacturing centre at Kongara Kalan near here. A press release from the CMO said the state government will also extend all necessary support to upcoming projects which are being undertaken by Foxconn. Foxconn Group, which will be investing USD 550 million in Telangana, entered into an agreement with the state government in March this year assuring them to create one lakh jobs by setting up an electronics manufacturing unit. In the first phase, the company will provide 25,000 jobs in the next two years. The firm held a groundbreaking ceremony in May for the facility to make Apple AirPods. Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy Saturday said the state government will provide Rs 5 lakh accident insurance to gig workers such as those involved in food delivery, and driving cabs and auto-rickshaws. According to an official release, he also assured the gig workers that the government would provide Rs 10 lakh health cover under the Rajiv Arogyasri scheme. Attending a meeting of cab and autorickshaw drivers and food delivery executives here, the chief minister said the state government will provide social security to workers in the unorganised sectors and will make a policy decision in this direction. Reddy promised that the state government would study the existing policy for gig workers in Rajasthan and introduce an effective law in the next state budget session, the release said.
