WPL 2024: Mumbai Indians pummel Royal Challengers Bangalore by 7 wickets

Mumbai Indians batters and bowlers functioned in perfect sync to power their side to a seven-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in their Women's Premier League match here on Saturday. Yastika Bhatia (31, 15 balls, 4x4, 2x6) and Hayley Matthews (26, 21b, 3x4, 1x6) added 45 runs for the first wicket in just 3.5 overs to give a sound launching pad to MI. The subsequent batters exploited the strong start to register a fine win, reaching the 132-run target with 29 balls to spare to take them to the top of the table with six points. The MI bowlers were efficient while restricting RCB to a timid 131 for six. Bhatia gave a fiery start to the Mumbai chase as she began with a boundary off pacer Renuka Singh in the very first ball and the introduction of Sophie Molineux prompted her to take aggression to next level. The left-hander smashed the left-arm spinner over the deep mid-wicket for a six and then carted her past point for a four. However, Bhatia was not all power as she show

WPL 2024: Renuka set the tone for RCB by controlling Powerplay - Molineux

Renuka Singh has managed to control the Powerplay period by providing early breakthroughs and stopping run-flow with her swing bowling which played a significant role in RCB winning both its games, says team spin all-rounder Sophie Molineux. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are sitting on top of the table with four points. Mumbai Indians (+0.488) also have four points but they are placed second behind RCB who have better NRR of +1.665. RCB had restricted Gujarat Giants to 107 for seven on Tuesday night with Renuka returning impressive figures of 4-0-14-2. RCB then overhauled the target in 12.3 overs to log their second win on the trot. "Renuka has been incredible in both games and playing against her for India, she's just so reliable and it's great to be on the same team as her. She swings the ball beautifully at the front and I think she's really set the tone for us in both games," Molineux said. In their opening game against UP Warriorz, Renuka did not dismiss any batter but ...

WPL 2024: Story of accidental leg-spinner Asha Sobhana, a star of RCB

Asha Sobhana's parents were in a state of panic and were ready to rush to a nearby police station to file a missing complaint when their daughter failed to turn up at home even three hours after the regular school closing time. But panic soon gave way to relief when Asha returned to her home at Peroorkada in Thiruvananthapuram around 7.30 PM, announcing her selection to the district women's cricket team with a beaming smile and scream. Her parents understood the depth of passion their daughter had for cricket at that moment and decided to support her. All those efforts have now taken Asha to the Royal Challengers Bangalore ranks in the Women's Premier League, and the leg-spinner's five-wicket haul (5/22) was the catalyst in their thrilling two-run win over UP Warriorz here on Saturday. Asha said the RCB contract came to her at the right time as she was toying with the idea of quitting the game because of no recognition even after toiling in domestic cricket for well over a ...

Rajat Patidar: Fine blend of domestic cricket grind and IPL temperament

There is very little chance that Rajat Patidar will make it to the playing eleven during India's opening Test against England unless the hosts decide on going a bowler short. The 30-year-old Patidar's maiden entry into the Indian Test team is, however, a testament to the country's superb domestic structure that produces battle-hardened professionals and rewards them for the consistency and temperament. Whether earning plaudits from the country's most successful domestic coach Chandrakant Pandit while playing Ranji Trophy for Madhya Pradesh or looking the part while having Virat Kohli at the other end in pressure IPL games, Patidar has proved at every level and unlikely to disappoint when it matters the most. So, what makes Patidar special as compared to some of his other domestic contemporaries who were also in contention? Vijay Dahiya, who has seen enough of Indian domestic talent as first-class and IPL coach as well as a broadcaster, explains it in simple terms. "Rajat knows how

IPL 2024: Joseph was one of our top three targets - RCB Director of Cricket

Royal Challengers Bangalore Director of Cricket Mo Bobat justified the franchise's decision to go after Alzarri Joseph for a big sum in the IPL auction here on Tuesday, saying the West Indian pacer was among their top three targets as he is one of the best exponents in death overs. Starting at a base price of Rs 1 crore, Joseph was bought by RCB for Rs 11.50 crores after an intense bidding war, also involving Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants. "We're delighted to have Alzarri (Joseph). From our perspective, he was our top three targets. From an overseas pace bowling perspective, you're always trying to navigate through the auction order, which makes things slightly tricky. We made a good judgment call," Bobat said. "I think, to bring forward our interest in Alzarri and to have a good go at him because he's a player that we really like now with Alzarri, he bowls at high pace, he's got a high release point, so he gets bounce. We know bounce is important at t
