Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate SEMICON India 2024 at the India Expo Mart in Uttar Pradesh's Greater Noida on September 11, his office said. He will also address the gathering on the occasion, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said in a statement. Modi will inaugurate SEMICON India 2024 at the India Expo Mart, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh at around 10.30 am on September 11, the PMO said. It has been the vision of the prime minister to position India as a global hub for semiconductor design, manufacturing and technology development, the statement said. In accordance with this vision, SEMICON India 2024 is being organised from September 11 to 13 with the theme "Shaping the Semiconductor Future". Like-minded nations partnering with India to make it chip hub: Krishnan

Due to the prevailing geopolitical situation, like-minded countries are collaborating with India to make it a major semiconductor manufacturing destination, a top Electronics and IT ministry official said on Sunday. In an interview with PTI, Ministry of Electronics and IT Secretary S Krishnan said pilot facilities of US storage semiconductor maker Micron and Tata Electronics have already rolled out chips, and their main plants in Gujarat will begin to produce made-in-India chips from the later part of 2025. "Globally, and thanks to geopolitical circumstances, there is an increasing realisation that semiconductors are a very important and strategic commodity, and therefore, we need substantial resilience in the production of semiconductors," Krishnan said. India will need 10-20 chip manufacturing plants in next 10 yrs: Semi CEO

India will need 10-20 chip manufacturing plants over the next 10 years, Semicon India organiser Semi President and CEO Ajit Manocha said on Wednesday. Manocha said that huge interest is developing in the semiconductor ecosystem, especially in Taiwan after the success of Foxconn and Wistron in India. "I think we will need probably in the next 10 years maybe 10-20 fabs in India. This is a rough estimate," Manocha said. Semi will organise the first global conference on semiconductor ecosystem, Semicon India 2024 from September 11-13 in Noida. Manocha has over 40 years of experience in the semiconductor industry. Earlier, he served as the CEO of chip manufacturing company Global Foundries between 2011 and 2014, and as executive vice president and chief manufacturing officer at NXP Semiconductors.
