Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday made a case for building smart villages on the line smart cities. Speaking at the 42nd Convocation of School of Planning and Architecture, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways said, "In urban areas we are making smart city... why we are not thinking on the line that how we should make smart village. "So that thing is in my mind. I am also making a smart village. A plot of 1,000 square feet, a house of 500 square feet in Rs 5 lakh... and for entire life the electricity and water are free," the minister said. He further said that knowledge is very important and added that the conversion of knowledge into wealth is the future of the country. The educated manpower, he said, will play a major role in the prime minister's vision of making India a 5 trillion-dollar economy and self-reliant. QCI takes on board 1,500 'sarpanchs' for quality development of villages

The Quality Council of India has taken on board 1,500 sarpanchs from across the country and plans to add 50,000 more by this year-end as part of its initiative to connect with grassroot leaders and foster quality-driven development of villages, an official said on Monday. QCI, an autonomous body set up under a public-private partnership model by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has also launched a mobile app called 'Sarpanch Samvaad', which will connect sarpanchs from different parts of the country so that they can exchange good practices and upload their works for each other's benefit, QCI chairperson Jaxay Shah said. On Monday, the QCI expanded to western India by opening its new office in Ahmedabad, and signed an MoU with the city-based Gujarat Technological University (GTU) to conduct training activities for students, faculty members and associated industries. Developed Bharat dream can be realised only when villages get developed: PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated development projects worth more than Rs 26,000 crore in poll-bound Chhattisgarh, where he said the dream of a developed Bharat will be realised only when all states, districts and villages become developed. He was speaking at an event held at the Lalbag Maidan in Jagdalpur, the headquarter of Bastar district, where he dedicated to the nation the NMDC Steel Ltd's steel plant at Nagarnar village, located around 22 km away from here, and virtually flagged off a new train between Tadoki and Raipur in the state.
