Recent Twitter modifications pose problems for users, say analysts

Some users on microblogging site Twitter are shifting to third-party apps since the company has made verification necessary within 30 days for accessing TweetDeck, a move which industry watchers believe could give an edge to rival platforms. Since the removal of Teams feature from the Elon Musk-led app, reported outages and a number of changes announced, users have been taking to the platform to report issues of increased advertisements and appearances of blocked and muted accounts on their Twitter feed. Twitter users will need to get their account verified for using collaborative and content creation platform TweetDeck, the social media company said on Tuesday. TweetDeck allows users to manage multiple accounts from a single dashboard as well as collaborate with other users for creating content on Twitter without sharing passwords. "In 30 days, users must be Verified to access TweetDeck," Twitter Support said in a tweet. Access to TweetDeck is free as of now but its users will now have to shell out money to access it with new rules mandating verification of account. Twitter charges Rs 650 per month or Rs 6,800 annually on the web from verified accounts. The Reserve Bank is not planning to issue any separate norms to regulate social media influencers pedalling their personal views on the financial markets since sector watchdog Sebi is already on it. Addressing media after the monetary policy announcement on Thursday wherein the central bank has for the second time in a row left the key policy rates unchanged, governor Shaktikanta Das said, "The RBI is not planning to issue any separate guidelines to regulate financial market influencers since the Sebi is already doing so". Sebi has been planning to direct brokers and mutual funds to limit the use of financial influencers to curb the spread of financial advice via social media advertising and marketing campaigns. Social media influencers peddle personal views or those paying them on financial markets or stocks.
