'Cricket is a captain's game, coach must take back seat'
Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly said that a coach should take a back seat in cricket as it is a captain's game, unlike football."I think the coach has to take a back seat in cricket. It's not like football. A lot of the current cricket coaches start to believe that I'm going to run a cricket team like a football team. Arpinder, Dharun, Chitra star attraction of National Open 2018
Asian Games gold medallist Arpinder Singh will be the biggest attraction at the 58th National Open Athletics Championships, to be held here from September 25 to 28. Arpinder will be competing on the final day of the competition. Arpinder, who became the first Indian triple jumper to claim a gold medal at the Asian Games last month, continued his rich vein of form, having won a bronze at the IAAF Continental Cup in Ostrava, Czech Republic. The 25-year-old Arpinder was representing the Asia-Pacific team in the meet, held once every four years. He had jumped 16.77m in Jakarta and has a personal best of 17.17m which he recorded in 2014. The 25-year-old will not be the only Asian medallist who will be in action at the season-ending championships at the Kalinga Stadium over the week. Joining him at the four-day event will be Dharun Ayyasamy who won a silver medal with a new national record time of 48.96 seconds in the men's 400m hurdles and V Neena who claimed a silver medal in the women's .

International Cricket Council (ICC) President David Richardson has said that the cricket boards of India and Pakistan should resolve their issues on a bilateral basis.The comment came in the backdrop of a case filed by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) against Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for not playing any bilateral cricket with them despite signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which guarantees six bilateral series between 2015 and 2023.The Indian board, however, have claimed that the MoU is not binding on them as PCB did not adhere to some of the clauses mentioned in the document.The hearing in the matter is scheduled to be held at the ICC Headquarters in Dubai from October 1 to October 3.Speaking during Media Day event at the ICC headquarters, Richardson said, "We obviously don't enjoy the fact that two country boards are in dispute between each other. BCCI condoles Biswanath Dutt's demise
The Board of Cricket Control for India (BCCI) has condoled the death of former president of the governing body Biswanath Dutt who passed away on Monday following a prolonged illness.Dutt, who was 93 years old, was elected as the president for a one-year term from 1988-89 to 1989-90.An efficient administrator also served as the secretary and chief of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB).Before being appointed the BCCI president, Dutt served as the Board's vice-president from 1980-81 to 1987-88 (barring the 1981-82 season). He is also credited for Jagmohan Dalmiya's foray into cricket administration.During his tenure as CAB secretary, Dutt appointed Dalmiya as treasurer of the association and it was there that his journey as one of the best administrators took shape.

Initiative to encourage football at grassroots proposed
In a bid to encourage football at the grassroots across the country, Vedanta Limited Monday launched a plan to take its initiatives in the sport to the states of Odisha and Chhattisgarh. Hindustan Zinc, a Vedanta group company, had launched its grassroots development program, Zinc Football, in Udaipur last week. The initiative proposed to the Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore involves the establishment of a full-fledged residential academy like the one at Zawar, Udaipur, with world-class facilities and the country's first ever 'technology-hinged football training' integrating the unique F-Cube technology into football development at all levels. The residential academy, which is at the centre of this football drive, currently has 30 budding footballers under the age group of 14 years, handpicked among more than 4500 aspirants through various scouting camps held over the past year.
