Otters squash: Top seeds Abhishek & Tushar make it to semis

Top seeds Abhishek Pradhan and Tushar Shahani overpowered their opponents to reach the semi-final round of the Men's & U-19 boys category of the Otters Club Open Squash Tournament 2018 here today. Pradhan outsmarted Aishwary Singh, who had beaten some of the top players in the tournament. Abhishek did not face much resistance from Aishwary and defeated him 11-8, 11-6, 11-5 to reach the semis. Dipa fails to qualify for vault final but makes it to beam title round

Star gymnast Dipa Karmakar failed to qualify for the vault final but made the cut in the balance beam as India also booked a berth in the title round of the team competition in the Asian Games here today. Dipa, who had narrowly missed a bronze in the vault final in the 2016 Rio Olympics, finished eighth in her pet event's qualification round with a score of 13.225. She could not qualify in the vault final as her two compatriots Pranati Nayak (13.425) and Aruna Budda Reddy (13.350) finished above her at sixth and seventh respectively. Only two competitors from a country can qualify for the final round. Bopanna-Sharan enters doubles quarters, Raina in last eight of singles

Top seeds Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan breezed into the men's doubles quarterfinals while Ankita Raina entered the last eight of the women's singles at the Asian Games here today. Raina, ranked 189, overpowered world number 243 Eri Hozumi 6-1 6-2 in a round of 16 clash. Virdhawal misses medal after bettering national record, seeks TOPS inclusion

Virdhawal Khade bettered his national record but missed the bronze medal in the men's 50m freestyle by a whisker, finishing fourth in the final at the Asian Games here today. After finishing third fastest in overall heats, Khade was a medal contender but missed it by hundredth of a second. He clocked 22.47s while Japan's bronze winner Shunichi Nakao timed 22.46. China's Hexin Yu (22.11) won gold ahead of Katsumi Nakamura (22.20).
