Force India goes into administration

The Force India Formula One team went into administration, as expected, late Friday evening in London following a High Court hearing brought by a winding-up order. Deputy team principal Bob Fernley confirmed the action, telling reporters that an "administrator was appointed by the court for Force India this evening". There was no further immediate comment from the team, which, on Friday, had said it hoped to resolve its critical cash-flow difficulties with the help of new investment, while under administration. The team's senior driver Sergio Perez on Thursday said the situation was "critical". The Mexican driver is reportedly owed more than four million dollars while engine suppliers Mercedes are owed more than 15 million dollars. The team's second driver Esteban Ocon, who is under contract until the end of 2019, is expected to leave the team to join Renault for next year in a transfer that may help alleviate the problems. Both drivers and the rest of the team are in Budapest ...

Rashid has maturity to deal with challenges of red-ball cricket: Bairstow

England wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow feels that leg-spinner Adil Rashid will be able to put aside the rumblings his selection to the England Test team has generated and continue his form from where he left in the one-dayers against India. Rashid was selected for the first of five Tests against India despite quitting red-ball cricket ahead of the 2018 county season and having not played a first-class game since September. Former England captain Michael Vaughan dubbed it "ridiculous" before Rashid hit back. Another former skipper Nasser Hussian felt Rashid's Test recall sets a dangerous precedent for county cricket. Legendary all-rounder Ian Botham had, however, termed these criticisms unnecessary. Bairstow, who is Rashid's team-mate in Yorkshire, refused to be drawn into the controversy but said the leg-spinner must be excited to have got the England call-up for the Test series starting on August 1 in Birmingham. The biggest honour you can have is to go out and play Test ...

New Zealand's Martin Guptill struck 102 from just 38 balls as Worcestershire thrashed Northamptonshire by nine wickets in English county cricket's Twenty20 Blast. Set a targe of 188, visitors Worcestershire won with nearly seven overs to spare, with Joe Clarke making an unbeaten 61 off 33 balls. Clarke and Guptill put on 162 in 10 overs. IAAF maintains Russia's athletics ban over doping

The governing body of world athletics maintained Russia's ban from track and field over mass doping, just 10 days before the start of the European Championships in Berlin. "The IAAF Council unanimously adopted the resolution that RUSAF (the Russian athletics federation) not be reinstated at this time," said Rune Andersen, head of the IAAF's Russian taskforce team. Andersen, however, said there had been "a lot of meaningful engagement from RUSAF", which has made "significant improvement" in meeting reinstatement requirements. "In some cases they have gone above and beyond what is required," the Norwegian said before adding that the conclusion remained that RUSAF not be reinstated at this time with further progress still to be made. Andersen said that for Russia to be reinstated, ideally at the IAAF Council's next meeting in Monaco in December after a WADA meet in September, three demands must be met. Firstly, RUSAF must pay for the costs incurred by the IAAF in the wake of the doping ..

He reached a career-best No. 8 last week after making it to the semis of Wimbledon. Isner will next face fourth seed Matthew Ebden, who breezed past Marcos Baghdatis 6-3, 6-2 in one hour, 12 minutes. The Aussie is into his second semi-final of the season, following a run to the final four at the Libema Open. Isner is now .
