India shorten practice match citing heatwave in England

India's four-day practice match against county side Essex was reduced to three days due to the prevalent "heatwave" in England, with the visiting side claiming that the curtailed game will give them an extra day to rest and recover ahead of the Test series starting August 1. After some speculation over the reasons of shortening the match, given that the outfield was devoid of grass and the Indian support staff was seen having elaborate discussions with the ground staff after getting a glimpse of the green wicket for the match, it was stated that heat is the reason. An Essex county representative maintained that the Indian team "was happy with practice facilities". When asked about the rugged outfield, and whether that could have been a reason to reduce the game, the representative declined to comment any further. "Essex Cricket and the England & Wales Cricket Board have today agreed, at the request of the BCCI Management Team, that the scheduled Tourist match between Essex .

Melbourne City FC blank Kerala Blasters 6-0 in the LaLiga World

Kerala Blasters FC suffered a humiliating 0-6 defeat against Aleague side Melbourne City FC in the opening match of the Toyota Yaris LaLiga World tournament at Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium here on today. The visitors attacked from both the flanks and consistently tested the Blasters backline through some creative moves by Riley McGree and Lachlan Wales in the middle. Scottish forward Michael O'Halloran kept Sandesh Jhingan busy through the first half, as the skipper struggled to keep pace against the City forwards. The constant probing from Melbourne City FC forwards finally paid dividends as Dario Vidosic headed one into the far corner right at the half an hour mark with some clever work by Nathaniel Atkinson beat three Blasters men to chip it back to Luke Brattan, who lobbed in over the defence to find Vidosic. Three minutes later McGree doubled the lead for City. An unguarded Caceres came off with a brilliant one-two move playing it forward to McGree, who swivelled past .

Root sends Lancashire spinning to defeat ahead of India series

England captain Joe Root starred with the ball rather than the bat as his career-best figures helped Yorkshire defeat arch-rivals Lancashire by 118 runs at Old Trafford today. Root, one of the world's leading batsmen, took three of the four wickets to fall before lunch on the third morning with his occasional off-spin. This victory eased White Rose Yorkshire's fears of relegation from the First Division of the County Championship. But the result pushed Lancashire, beaten with more than a day to spare, nearer the drop as the Red Rose have now won just one of their nine Championship matches so far this season, losing five. Root, one of several England players involved in this fixture, had been hoping to spend time in the middle getting valuable red-ball batting practice ahead of next week's first Test against India. But in Yorkshire's first innings he made 22 before he was the first member of a star-studded hat-trick from Lancashire all-rounder Jordan Clark that also included New ...

ECB adamant no final decision taken on Hundred format

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has insisted no decisions on the exact format of its planned 100-ball competition will be taken until it has analysed the result of several trial matches in September. Tuesday saw Britain's Daily Telegraph report the ECB were considering allowing a substitute to bat or bowl. Meanwhile, The Times claimed it could be as many as four substitutes, which would effectively turn the competition into a 15-a-side game but with only 11 players allowed to bat or field. But a spokesman for the ECB, English cricket's national governing body, dismissed both reports as "speculation", saying today: "No decisions have been made on the playing conditions for the new competition which will start in the summer of 2020. "To develop the competition there are a number of on-going discussions, including one with a high-performance group who are planning a series of pilot matches in September.
