Shubhankar to play golf at Edinburgh Castle ahead of Scottish Open

Indian shuttlers witnessed a bad day in office in the qualifiers of the Thailand Open even as the mixed doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponappa entered the second round of the main draw in the USD 350,000 BWF World Tour Super 500 tournament, here today. Indian women's cricket team coach Arothe resigns after players' revolt

Indian women's cricket team coach Tushar Arothe today resigned after his position became untenable due to alleged differences with some of the star players, who had protested against his training methods. This is the second time during the CoA tenure that a national coach has stepped down after players' revolt. Last year, men's team head coach Anil Kumble resigned after his much-publicised differences with captain Virat Kohli. "The BCCI on Tuesday accepted India women's team coach Mr. Tushar Arothe's resignation. Asian Jr wrestling: MHA put Pakistan's participation on hold

The Home Ministry has given green light to the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) for hosting the Asian Junior Championship but has put on hold participation of grapplers from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq, according to officials. WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar confirmed that the MHA has given a go ahead for the event but said Pakistan's participation was "subject to clearance from security agencies." While Tomar informed only about Pakistan's participation, the PTI has learnt that clearance has been put on hold also for wrestlers from Iraq and Afghanistan. The MHA has communicated to the Federation that it will confirm the participation of the three countries in "due course". The clearance for the tournament paves the way for the grapplers and the officials from Uzbekistan, Japan and Turkmenistan and Korea to secure visas. Nayar not to coach Puducherry

Veteran Abhishek Nayar has ruled himself out from coaching Puducherry but is yet to take a call on whether he will play for that side. Nayar himself revealed that he was given an offer by Puducherry to coach and play for the team, which is set to make its debut this season in domestic cricket. Forced to dump the dangerous Produnova routine following a career-threatening knee injury, ace Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar will once again switch to the vault of death' after the Asian Games. Dipa had put Indian gymnastics on world map with her gravity-defying display in Produnova vault at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where she finished a creditable fourth. However, she couldn't compete in any tournament after the Rio high due to an Anterior Crucial Ligament (ACL) injury in her right knee. She had to undergo surgery in April last year and missed the Asian Championship, World Championship in Canada last year and the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia. Returning to action at the World Challenge Cup in Turkey on July 8, Dipa opted for Handspring 360 and Tsukuhara 720 en route to her gold medal winning feat. Indian 'A' drew 1-1 with South Korea in the first practice hockey match at the Sports Authority of India campus here today. The South Korean team, who are here to gain practice ahead of the Asian Games in Jakarta next month, began the match with a good defensive structure. Playing full press, Korea ensured they kept the hosts from making potential forays into the striking circle. Though India 'A' won a penalty corner in the first quarter, Rupinder Pal Singh's flick rebounded off the post. After a goalless first two quarters, South Korea made the first breakthrough with a field strike by Seo Inwoo in the 31st minute. India eye top ODI spot in series against England

India can reclaim the top spot in the International Cricket Council ODI rankings if it blanks England 3-0 in the three-match series beginning on July 12. England and India, currently ranked first and second respectively, play the first match of their upcoming series in Nottingham on Thursday, in what will kick off a month-long extravaganza of One-Day Internationals featuring 10 sides, spread across four continents. India, who had beaten England 2-1 in the Twenty20 International series, had conceded the top ranking to England at the annual update on May 2 but it will get a chance to claim back the spot. But for that, they will have to blank their opponents 3-0. England, on the other hand, will run up a lead of 10 points at the top of the table if they win by the same margin, the ICC said in a release. The possibility of a change at the top though is not the only matter of interest in upcoming matches since seven of the 10 teams playing in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 will be on view .

Lakshya, Akarshi to lead Indian challenge at Badminton Asia Junior Championship

Promising shuttlers Lakshya Sen and Akarshi Kashyap will lead the Indian challenge at the upcoming edition of the Badminton Asia Junior Championship to be played from July 14 to 22 in Jakarta. The tournament will be played in mixed team format and individual championship. The mixed team event will be played from July 14 to 17, while the individual competition starts from July 18 onwards. The tournament, which is in its 21st year of existence, will see the former junior world no.1 Lakshya share responsibilities with young Priyanshu Rajawat who caught the eyes of the selectors during the pre-selection trial tournament held in Tirupur early last month.
