Faf du Plessis seeks clarity on ball-tampering rules

South Africa cricket team captain Faf du Plessis said he is still unclear about the revised ball-tampering rules and needs clarity on the same."I think it's important to say that I'm not clear yet on that matter," Sports24 quoted du Plessis, as saying. The International Cricket Council recently made the ball-tampering punishment harsher for the offenders, extending the ban up to six Test matches or 12 one-day internationals.Earlier, there was a provision of one-Test match ban on the players found guilty of ball-tampering."The ICC obviously made the penalties a lot stricter, but they still haven't said what is allowed and what isn't. Is chewing gum allowed, is it not? Are you allowed to have mints in your mouth?" he further inquired. The right-hand batsman stated that he will speak to umpires to get some clarity on the matter before heading into the first Test match against Sri Lanka here on July 12."As Hashim Amla said, he likes to have sweets in his mouth and he spends a long time in ..

Papa you are getting older, daughter reminds Dhoni on 37th birthday

Ringing in his 37th birthday sporting a thick, grey beard, Mahendra Singh Dhoni was reminded that he was "getting older" through a song by none other than his extremely close toddler daughter Ziva. "Happy birthday papa, you are getting older," sang Ziva to his father who continues to inspire his teammates and millions of fans. In a video posted by the official Twitter handle of the BCCI, everyone from Virat Kohli to Ziva and wife Sakshi sent their wishes to the former India World Cup-winning skipper. Entering his 37th year in the backdrop of India's defeat to England in the second T20 International wasn't ideal for a man who is often credited with redefining limited overs cricket. It wasn't the kind of birthday celebration befitting one of India's finest captains, but that's how Dhoni has always been - quite and simple. His teammates - past and present - joined in the party as wishes poured in from across the cricket world. After the match was over, 'Captain Cool' celebrated the ...

Kuldeep, Chahal under pressure after England fight back

Rendered ineffective in the previous match, India's wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal would look to bounce back against 'well-prepared' England batsmen as the two teams clash in the series-deciding third Twenty20 International, here tomorrow. The Indian spin duo faces its first real challenge in more than a year with England batsmen biting back immediately after drubbing in Manchetser. From Sri Lanka, to Australia, to New Zealand, and to South Africa, none of the opponents could easily contend with Chahal-Kuldeep in such quick time. With Kuldeep returning wicket-less in Cardiff after a sensational five-wicket show in the series-opener and Chahal too taken for runs last night, they need to find ways to trouble the opponents. India missed injured Jasprit Bumrah's services on Friday during the death overs as England hit three sixes. His replacement Umesh Yadav has provided wickets (four in two matches) in the powerplays, but he has also been taken for runs at the same ...

Difference in conditions from Manchester helped us: Morgan

England skipper Eoin Morgan said the difference in conditions from the first game in Manchester worked to their advantage as they levelled the three-match Twenty20 series against India 1-1 after winning the second game. Thanks to a quicker and bouncier pitch, India were restricted to 148 for five. Despite a poor start, the hosts were able to chase it down with two balls to spare. Kuldeep Yadav returned 0-34 from his four overs and was rendered ineffective, after England's pacers had reduced India to 22-3 with a short ball plan. Conditions were different today. Kuldeep's a very good bowler and he'll bowl well the majority of the time. But I thought conditions at Old Trafford suited him more than conditions today. With the pace and bounce of the wicket that the seamers might have dominated a bit more, but I thought our plans were a lot clearer. We played him well, Morgan explained. When David Willey had bowled three balls and three of them flew through, I was quite surprised that the ...

England did well to curb mistakes: Chahal

England batsmen made fewer mistakes in the second Twenty20 as compared to the Manchester game and consequently won the second match, said India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. England won the second T20I by five wickets to level the three-match series 1-1. Like his captain Virat Kohli, Chahal too said that playing against Kuldeep Yadav better was key to England victory. Kuldeep had bowled really well in the last game but in this game they played him more carefully. They chose which delivery they wanted to play or not play. In the last game they made too many mistakes, but they have also come here to improve and play. "This time around they took calculate risks against Kuldeep. They did not hit out against him in the first three overs. Only in his last over, they hit out because at that stage we also had a chance to win the game. The fact that with a target of just 150-odd we took the game to the last over means we bowled well, he added. The wicket at Cardiff was bit different to the ...

England tackled Kuldeep well and it made difference: Kohli

England could level the series since they came well-prepared to effectively tackle wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav, India captain Virat Kohli said after they lost the second Twenty20 by five wickets. Kohli had no qualms in admitting that the hosts were a better side in the second Twenty20 with the hosts comfortably chasing a 150-run target. Kuldeep, who had bamboozled England batsmen in the series-opener and returned a five-wicket haul, remained wicket-less in second match last night. "They played Kuldeep really well today, and that was the difference in the middle overs this time. They did their homework and played Kuldeep really well. Need to get back day after," Kohli opined after the match. The India skipper said losing top-order inside five overs pegged the back. Rohit Sharma (5) , Shikhar Dhawan (10) and KL Rahul (6) departed early to leave India struggling at 22 for three. "It's always difficult to come back after losing three early wickets. England hit the right areas and made us .

Four years on, another World Cup ends in agony for Neymar and Brazil

Four years after the psychodrama of Neymar's injury and a humiliating World Cup semi-final defeat as hosts, Brazil are forced to come to terms with the crushing disappointment of a failed mission in Russia. It was not meant to be like this, Tite's side dumped out of the tournament in the quarter-finals at the hands of Belgium, losing 2-1 in Kazan. They had come to the World Cup determined to confirm their revival following the 7-1 humiliation at the hands of Germany in Belo Horizonte, and there were plenty of reasons for optimism. With Germany, Spain and Argentina out, and Italy not even at the party, the path looked to be clearing for Brazil to go and win their sixth title. But instead, Tite's side came a cropper the first time they faced another of the contenders and it is Belgium who advance to a semi-final against France. In the four World Cups since the Selecao won the 2002 tournament in Japan and South Korea, they have been eliminated three times in the quarter-finals. The run ..

'Bitter' Brazil boss Tite keeps quiet on future

Brazil coach Title left questions hanging over his future but refused to point the finger as the five-time champions crashed out of the World Cup after a 2-1 quarter-final defeat to Belgium. Four years after the drama of Neymar's injury and a humiliating 7-1 semi-final defeat to Germany on home soil, Brazil were forced back to the drawing board as they followed neighbours Argentina, Uruguay and Colombia in exiting the tournament earlier than hoped. Brazil had been undefeated in their last 15 games under Tite, a streak in which a resurgent Selecao had conceded only three goals. Their World Cup hopes were turned upside down in 31 first-half minutes when Fernandinho's 13th minute own goal put Belgium ahead before a superb strike from Kevin De Bruyne left Brazil, and Neymar, staring at a spectacular defeat. Tite admitted it was a "bitter" defeat, but he brushed aside suggestions he could resign. "I'm not going to talk about the future, I'm not thinking about the future," said the ...

Hales powers England to five-wicket win; series level at 1-1

Alex Hales struck an unbeaten 58 off 41 balls to power a much-improved England to a series-levelling five-wicket victory over India in the second T20 International here. The hosts scored 149 for five in 19.4 overs to overcome India's sub-par total of 148 for five on a Sophia Gardens surface that offered bounce. Virat Kohli had top scored with 47 runs off 38 balls as the visitors struggled to get going after being put into bat. England used the short-ball tactic to good effect and tied down both Rohit Sharma (5) and Shikhar Dhawan (10). Rohit was the first to go, trying to pull a short delivery after failing to make contact repeatedly. He skied a catch off debutant Jake Ball (1-32) in the second over and was caught behind. First game's centurion KL Rahul (6) was in next but didn't look comfortable at the crease either. The groundsmen left an extra layering of grass on the wicket's top-surface and English bowlers used it amply. With the short boundaries, they used short bowling against .
