Shaw's technique is just like Tendulkar's: Mark Waugh

Legendary Australian batsman Mark Waugh thinks that the technique of young batsman Prithvi Shaw is similar to that of cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar. "The first thing you notice is his technique, it's very similar to Sachin Tendulkar's," Waugh, a Star Sports Select Dugout expert, was quoted as saying in a media release. "His grip, his stance, he stays very still at the crease and plays all his shots around the wicket. He plays the ball quite late and is quite punchy in his stroke play and has an excellent base to play any shot from any bowler. He's just so much like Sachin Tendulkar," added Waugh, who played 128 Tests for Australia and scored 8,029 runs. Mumbai's Shaw, who plays for Delhi Daredevils in the ongoing Indian Premier League, has scored 140 runs at a strike rate of 166.66 in the four games he has played so far. Shaw, who is just over 18, hit a maiden half-century in his second match of the IPL and the knock made him the joint-youngest cricketer to record a ...

Why diet like Kohli when you can hit longer sixes than him, says overweight Shahzad

At over 90kg, Mohammad Shahzad is the complete antithesis of fitness freak Virat Kohli but the Afghan wicketkeeper-batsman says who needs a punishing regimen like the Indian captain when he can hit longer sixes than the world's No.1 ODI batsman. Standing at 5'8", there is seldom a dull moment when the stockily-built Shahzad is around, both on and off the field. "Dekhiye hum fitness bhi poori karte hain aur khaate bhi poora hain (I work a lot on my fitness but I don't compromise on food). You want me to have a fitness routine like Kohli, it is not possible, but I am working on it (losing weight)," Shahzad tells PTI in a chat. The burly 30-year-old cricketer, who has had an eventful international career dating back to 2009, simply plays by his own rules. He knows he is overweight but doesn't doubt his ability one bit, so much so that he believes that he can hit bigger sixes than Kohli despite not having the exemplary fitness and skill possessed by the Indian captain. Having played in a .

I am not thinking about India squad, focus on IPL as of now: Pant

Rishabh Pant's individual brilliance has not gone unnoticed in Delhi Daredevils' stuttering campaign in the ongoing IPL but the young wicket-keeper batsman says he doesn't want to think about a potential India call-up based on this performance. Pant has been Daredevils' batting mainstay this season with three half-centuries and two near-fifty contributions. In Wednesday's match against Rajasthan Royals, the left-hander smashed a 69 off just 29 balls to steer the side to a huge total and an eventual win, which has kept it alive in the tournament. Asked if this consistent show will help him secure an India jersey, Pant said, "I am not thinking about that. I am just playing IPL right now, just trying it do well in every game for the side." Pant said his side has succeeded in curtailing the mistakes and that has been the key to its revival. They have now jumped from eight to sixth in the points table and remain in Play-offs race. "Everything is fine from our side. There are small things, .

Sunrisers have performed well even without Bhuvi: Pathan "

Former India pacer Irfan Pathan has heaped praise on the bowling attack of Sunrisers Hyderabad saying they have performed well even without their pace spearhead Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. "Sunrisers Hyderabad...the way they have performed without Bhuvaneshwar, who is a big bowler...According to me, in the Indian team, if anyone is at par with (Jasprit) Bumrah in ODI cricket, it is Bhuvaneshwar Kumar," Pathan said when asked which is the strongest attack in this Indian Premier League. "And the way they (SRH bowlers) have performed without him in the last 2-3 matches, it is a big thing...," he added. Pathan was here last night to launch Mashroo's Ramzan range of 'modernised thobes'. "They have fast bowlers- Siddharth Kaul and Sandeep Sharma, but no big international name in their pace department...Only Rashid Khan (from Afghanistan) and Shakib (Al Hasan). But the way they have bowled is impressive. "But with limited resources, the young boys are bowling well in right areas and ...
