Opting to field after winning the toss, England restricted the Australians to 149 for eight at the Brabourne Stadium. Rachael Haynes top-scored for Australia with a 65 off 45 balls, knock that included eight boundaries and a six. For England, medium pacer Jenny Gunn and Sciver finished with three and two wickets, respectively. In reply, the English team chased down the target with as many as three overs to spare. World No.1 Johnson crashes out at WGC Match Play

World number one Dustin Johnson crashed out of the World Golf Championships Dell Technologies Match Play after suffering his second defeat of the tournament. Defending champion Johnson, who suffered an upset loss to Austrian Bernd Wiesberger on Wednesday, was beaten 4&3 by Canada's Adam Hadwin at the Austin Country Club in Texas. The loss made it impossible for Johnson to progress from Group One in the round-robin phase to the weekend's knockout rounds, with Hadwin -- who halved his opening match with Kevin Kisner -- assured of finishing above the top seed. Johnson trailed from the opening hole against 38th seed Hadwin, who set up a simple birdie chance after hitting his iron from the fairway to within four feet. Johnson birdied the fifth to draw level but Hadwin edged back in front on the sixth after draining a 13-foot eagle putt on the 590-yard par-five. The 30-year-old from Moose Jaw went two up at the turn with another superb putt, rolling in a 38-footer. Johnson then found ...

Ominous start: Hamilton leads Mercedes one-two in season's first practice

World champion Lewis Hamilton made an ominous start to the season as he led a Mercedes one-two in opening practice for the Australian Formula One Grand Prix here today. Hamilton clocked a best time of one minute 24.026 seconds among his 27 laps to be a half-second quicker than team-mate Valtteri Bottas (1:24.577) in Melbourne. The 33-year-old Briton is gunning for his fifth world title this year, an achievement which would match the legendary Juan Manuel Fangio and leave him just two adrift of Michael Schumacher's all-time record. Dutchman Max Verstappen was third quickest in his Red Bull with 1:24.771, some 0.745sec behind Hamilton, while his Australian team-mate Daniel Ricciardo was sixth. Ricciardo was heard saying on the team radio: "Still disconnected. I struggle with the front when leaning on it, and I feel like the rear hurts on exit still." The Ferraris of Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel were fourth and fifth fastest, but, significantly, between 0.8-0.9secs slower than ...

Williamson hits record ton as NZ extend lead

Kane Williamson carved out a New Zealand record 18th century as he extended the Black Caps' commanding first innings lead over England on a rain-hit day two of the first Test here today. At tea in Auckland, the New Zealand captain was not out on 100 with Henry Nicholls on 36 for a lead of 139 runs, after England crumbled to be all out for 58 on day one. New Zealand resumed on Friday at 175 for three with Williamson and Nicholls calmly adding 22 runs in 40 minutes, enough time for the skipper to reach his historic hundred, before rain drove the players from the field. Tea was taken 30 minutes early, although the weather had cleared by then. Williamson began day two on 91 and faced 25 deliveries before he clipped James Anderson through the gully for a single to bring up his milestone century, after sharing the previous record with team-mate Ross Taylor and the late Martin Crowe. He scored his first Test century on debut -- 131 against India at Ahmedabad in 2010 -- and now, in his 64th ..

Ibrahimovic signs for Los Angeles Galaxy - report

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has signed for the Los Angeles Galaxy and could make his debut for the Major League Soccer side this month, Sports Illustrated reported today. Hours after reports in Britain said Ibrahimovic had played his last game for Manchester United, Sports Illustrated reported on its website the Swedish star had inked a deal with the Galaxy. The report said the transfer would be announced in a full-page adverstisement in Friday's edition of the Los Angeles Times. MLS rules allow clubs to sign three designated players who are not subject to salary limits, a rule introduced when David Beckham arrived in the league in 2007. However because the Galaxy have already signed their designated players for the 2018 season, Ibrahimovic's salary will be limited to around $1.5 million according to the Sports Illustrated report. That represents a fraction of the reported 19 million pounds ($26.8 million) a season Ibrahimovic was paid after signing for United from Paris Saint-Germain in ...

Zimbabwe defeat opens World Cup door for Afghanistan and Ireland

Zimbabwe lost a World Cup qualifying thriller by just three runs to the United Arab Emirates today, allowing Afghanistan and Ireland to clash in a winner-takes-all tie for a place in the 2019 finals. Chasing a rain-affected target of 230 off 40 overs, Zimbabwe needed six off the last ball to win the Super Six match and join already-qualified West Indies in the 2019 showpiece. But Craig Ervine was only able to take two off man-of-the-match Mohammad Naveed and the home side's hopes were dashed. The UAE, who had no chance of qualifying for the finals, made 235-7 off 47.5 overs with Rameez Shazhad hitting a top score of 59. After a delay for rain at the Harare Sports Club, Zimbabwe were set a DLS target of 230 off 40 overs but despite a run-a-ball 80 from Sean Williams, the home side never recovered from a poor start which saw them slip to 45-3 at one stage. On Friday, Afghanistan and Ireland will meet at the same venue with the winner guaranteed a place in the 2019 finals in England and .
