IPL 2018: Opening ceremony moved to April 7
The opening ceremony of Indian Premier League will be held at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium on April 7, confirmed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sources."The opening ceremony was earlier planned for April 6, but was later changed," said the sources.The decision, reportedly, has been taken at the behest of Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators.The opening game will see defending champions Mumbai Indians take on two-time winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK), which is returning to the league along with Rajasthan Royals after a gap of two years.The two teams had to serve a two-year suspension over their officials' involvement in betting during the 2013 edition of the tournament.The 11th edition of the world's most popular and competitive T20 tournament will be played at nine venues across 51 days.Meanwhile, the second match will see Delhi Daredevils locking horns with Kings XI Punjab at the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground in New Delhi.Kings XI Punjab will play their three

Calum MacLeod struck a magnificent 157 not out as Scotland stunned Afghanistan by seven wickets in their opening 2019 World Cup qualifier at Bulawayo today. An early goal from caretaker coach and captain Robbie Keane helped ATK defeat North East United FC 1-0 in their concluding league clash of the Indian Super League here today. Having struggled to replicate the good performance of the previous seasons, two-time champions ATK needed a win to avoid a bottom-place finish, and Keane's well-taken goal in the 10th minute ensured just that at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan. Italy international Davide Astori dies of heart attack at 31
Italy international defender Davide Astori died in his hotel room during the night of Saturday to Sunday, his club Fiorentina said today. "Fiorentina are profoundly shocked to have to announce the death of captain Davide Astori after a sudden illness," the Serie A club said on Twitter. The 31-year-old, who leaves behind a two-year-old daughter, was in Udine to prepare for Sunday's match against Udinese. Astori died of "natural causes" after a "cardiac circulatory collapse" -- a type of heart attack -- Antonio de Nicolo, a Udine magistrate was quoted in Italian media as saying. The magistrate added that it was "strange that such a thing happened without any warning symptoms in a profession which is so closely monitored". Astori's body was taken to a hospital in Udine for an autopsy. Fiorentina's game was called off in the morning. Brazilian superstar Neymar left hospital by helicopter today, a day after a successful foot operation, to begin his recovery ahead of a possible World Cup return. The 26-year-old Paris Saint-Germain forward went to the airport in Belo Horizonte by helicopter, from where he was expected to head on a private jet to his luxury villa at the Mangaratiba beach resort around 100km from Rio de Janeiro. According to Brazilian website Uol, Neymar's entourage have already prepared his recovery "headquarters" at his villa, which includes a gymnasium and a machine capable of producing 300kg of ice a day, similar to those used by modern football clubs. His recovery will be monitored by Brazil and PSG physiotherapist Rafael Martini, who has been working alongside Neymar since he started his career at Santos in Sao Paulo. Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder has decided to end his international football career after 14 years and a record 133 caps during a golden era for his country. Alongside Arjen Robben, Robin van Persie and Mark van Bommel, Sneijder propelled the Netherlands to the 2010 World Cup final where an extra-time goal from Andres Iniesta saw Spain win the title. At 33, Sneijder signed with Qatari outfit Al Gharafa in January after a poor six-month stint at Nice in France.
