Shami's fi-fer takes India to victory in Johannesburg

Mohammed Shami on Saturday took a five wicket haul at the New Wanderers Stadium, helping India win the third and final Test match against South Africa by 63 runs.Chasing a total of 241, the South African team choked, losing the last eight wickets for just 38 runs.However, the monumental collapse saw opener Dean Elgar standing tall. Elgar, who was hit on the head by a short ball from Jasprit Bumrah on Day 3, carried his bat at 86.Wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock, Andile Phehlukwayo, Kagiso Rabada, and Morne Morkel were all out on a duck.Jasprit Bumrah and Ishant Sharma picked up two wickets each, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar scalped one.Kumar, who made 30 in the first innings and 33 in the second innings, picked up four wickets in the match. India today benefited from the new rule allowing a substitute to keep wickets when Dinesh Karthik donned the gloves in place of an injured Parthiv Patel on day four of the third Test against South Africa. Karthik, who has not played a Test since January 2010, kept wickets in the final session after Patel injured his right index finger. The rule that came into effect last October allows a substitute fielder to keep wickets in case of an injury but needs approval from the umpires. India won the third cricket Test against South Africa by 63 runs after bundling out the hosts for 177 in their second innings on the fourth day, here today. In a dramatic turnaround, South African lost their last eight wickets for 53 runs as India remained unbeaten at Wanderers.
