Pant not perturbed by MSK remark on young keepers

Young Rishabh Pant is unperturbed by chief selector MSK Prasad's less-than-flattering views on the next line of wicketkeepers to fill the big boots of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, saying his only job is to score runs. Though not in the best of form in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season, Delhi's 20-year-old Pant is considered a bright prospect and has shown his capabilities in the not-too-distant past. "I should not worry about all this. I don't think about all this at all. My job is to perform, score as many runs as possible," Pant said at the end of opening day's play against Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy finals. But it is precisely the runs that Pant has not been able to score, captaining Delhi this season. Prasad recently made it clear that Dhoni, a two-time World Cup-winning captain, remains India's best wicketkeeper in limited overs cricket. "There is no comparison and I don't see any wicket- keeper, who can even come close to him (Dhoni) in world cricket, leave alone Indian ..

Matos all praise for Kolkata's passion for football

Indian Arrows coach Luis Norton de Matos today thanked the Mohun Bagan supporters for giving them a standing ovation after a 1-1 stalemate in their I-League football fixture here today. Playing at their home ground for the first time in I- League, Mohun Bagan squandered chances galore and played with a numerical advantage in the last 25 minutes but only to be held one-all by the spirited Indian colts. This was a historic occasion for Kolkata Maidan as I- League made its debut but Mohun Bagan registered their third successive draws, and all of them coming in home matches. A capacity crowd staged demonstrations outside the venue and shouted slogans against their coach Sanjoy Sen, club officials and foreign players. The crowd, however, gave a standing ovation to Indian Arrows, leaving the Portuguese coach overwhelmed. Delhi, Vidarbha share honours after Shorey's unbeaten ton

Displaying steely resolve, Dhruv Shorey stood out with an unbeaten century and steered Delhi to 271 for six, but Vidarbha did just enough to share honours on day one of the Ranji Trophy final here. The 256-ball 123 was Shorey's third, and undoubtedly the most important, knock of his first-class career. Batting almost through the day, Shorey hit 17 boundaries. The 25-year-old, who walked into bat in the very first over of the match following Kunal Chandelas dismissal, survived testing opening spells by the Vidarbha seamers before opening up himself at the Holkar Stadium. Shorey added 105 runs for the fifth wicket with Himmat Singh, who produced a fluent 66 off 72 balls with the help of eight boundaries and two sixes. Considering that they lost their openers, including the seasoned Gautam Gambhir, within the first hour of the big final, Delhi would be contend with the way the day progressed. Given the flow he was in, the seven-time winners, though, could be disappointed ...

Profligate Mohun Bagan held by 10-man Indian Arrows

Former champions Mohun Bagan failed to make their 'home debut' count as a 10-man Indian Arrows dished out a spirited show to return with a creditable 1-1 draw in an I-League fixture here today. A profligate Mohun Bagan took the penalty route to draw first blood in the 27th minute through Aser Pierrick Dipanda Dicka in what appeared to be a contentious decision by the referee. But their joy was shortlived as the All India Football Federation's developmental outfit restored parity within six minutes in a fine display of passing football with Rahul Balan slotting it home. It was Rahim Ali who raced past Kingshuk Debanth and Eze Kingsely from the left before a cool-headed Rahul finished it beautifully getting past the Mohun Bagan defenders. Mohun Bagan stepped up their attack in the second-half and the Arrows got a twin blow -- first in the 65th minute when Amarjit Singh Kiyam was sent off and later in the 74th minute when Ashish Rai had to be stretchered off after ...
