First T20 victory for India at Wankhede Stadium

India recorded their first-ever win in a Twenty20 International at the Wankhede Stadium when they edged out Sri Lanka by five wickets to complete a clean sweep of the three-match series here tonight. The hosts restricted the visitors to a modest 135 and then hit off the required runs in 19.2 overs to claim a hard- fought victory. India were beaten by a last-ball six when Eoin Morgan blasted medium-pacer Ashok Dinda back in 2012 as T20 International cricket made its debut at this stadium. That loss to England by six wickets happened three days before Christmas, as compared to the Yuletide-eve victory tonight over the hapless Lanka who are heading back home by catching an early morning flight, having lost both the Test and ODI rubbers to the home team earlier. The second T20 International featuring India at this stadium had also ended in heart-break for the hosts who lost to eventual champions West Indies by seven wickets on March 31, 2016 -- in the semi finals of the ...

Young bowlers help India complete 3-0 clean sweep

It was far from a dominating batting show after young bowlers' inspiring show but India managed to inflict a 3-0 series whitewash on Sri Lanka with a tense five-wicket win in the third Twenty20, here tonight. Sri Lankan hopes to end the miserable tour on a high were raised when India struggled in a 136-run chase but eventually the hosts crossed the finish line with four balls to spare. Sri Lanka will go home with just one ODI win from this tour while India would head to South Africa with convincing victories in all three formats. Supremely confident Indian bowlers came out firing with Jaydev Unadkat being outstanding today even as the Lankans appeared to be in dilemma as if to attack or stay patient. In a hurry to collect runs, they ended up playing poor lofted shots on good balls, resulting in tame dismissals and put on board a modest 135 for seven. India lost in-form openers -- captain Rohit Sharma (27) and KL Rahul (4) -- early, which affected their run-rate badly as ..

India inch closer to series whitewash, restrict Lanka to 135/7

Indian bowlers continued to torment the Sri Lankan batsmen as the hosts set themselves up for a series whitewash by restricting the visitors to a modest 135 for seven in the third and final Twenty20 cricket International, here today. While the supremely confident Indian bowlers came out firing, Lankans many a times appeared to be in dilemma as if to attack or stay patient. In a hurry to collect runs, they ended up playing poor lofted shots on good balls, resulting in tame dismissals. Asela Gunaratne was the only batsman, who applied himself well and played a slow but crucial 36-run knock that took Sri Lanka past the 100-run mark. Jaydev Unadkat, who generated a lot of pace in his first spell, was the most outstanding Indian bowler with figures of impressive 4-0-15-2. His pace colleague though proved very expensive, leaking 45 runs from his four overs with 18 coming in the last over of the innings. Debutant Washington Sundar (1/22) and Unadkat removed the top three ...

All countries want to play against India to make money: Sethi

The Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Najam Sethi has acknowledged that all countries want to play against India as it allows them to earn maximum revenue. Selection challenge for South Africa against Zimbabwe

Selection is likely to be South Africa's biggest challenge ahead of their one-off day- night Test against Zimbabwe, starting at St George's Park on Tuesday. Zimbabwe are unlikely to stretch the home side but South Africa, ranked second in Test cricket, will want to establish their best XI in this four-day Test ahead of a three-match series against India, starting in Cape Town on January 5. With the return of AB de Villiers and Dale Steyn after long absences from Test cricket, and with all South Africa's front-line fast bowlers fit for the first time in more than a year, coach Ottis Gibson described the selection issue as "a good nightmare". "India are the number one team in the world at the moment and we know we need to be at our best if we are going to compete with them and beat them, which is our ultimate goal," said Gibson.
