French anti-doping lab pronounced clean again
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has reinstated the French laboratory at Chatenay-Malabry which was suspended in September because of contaminated samples. The French anti-doping agency (AFLD) said yesterday that the contamination came from samples taken from bodybuilders that contained extremely high concentrations of steroids. The AFLD said that after the lab failed its test on August 28, it put corrective actions in place and passed an inspection on December 4-5. Among the steps were changing rinsing conditions, using "neutral" water-filled samples to detect contamination and switching, where possible, from reusable to disposable material, Mathieu Teoran, the AFLD secretary general told AFP. The suspension, confirmed in late September days after Paris won the right to host the 2024 Olympics, was a blow to Chatenay-Malabry, which had long been at the cutting edge of testing and developed a test for blood-doping agent EPO in 2000. Mourinho escapes FA sanctions for pre-derby comments
The English Football Association said yesterday that Jose Mourinho will face no sanctions following an investigation of comments he made before the recent Manchester derby. The FA said it has decided to take "no formal action" after reviewing evidence provided by Mourinho's club Manchester United, understood to be relating to suggestions that Manchester City players make "tactical fouls" to break up opponents' attacks. However it "reminded Jose Mourinho any further public comments about match officials may result in disciplinary action". Mourinho's escape from disciplinary action comes after the FA announced that no formal action would be taken against United or City following ugly scenes that overshadowed the derby at Old Trafford earlier this month. Pakistan desperate to host Asia Emerging Nations Cup
Pakistan is in no mood to give up its right to host the Asia Emerging Nations Cup in April despite strong resistance from the the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI). Besides India, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has also objected to Pakistan hosting the tournament citing security concerns. "Pakistan was given hosting rights when the ACC meeting was held in Lahore on October 29 and India and Bangladesh representatives were not present in that meeting," a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official said. He said when the recent ACC board meeting was held last week in Dubai the Indian and Bangladesh boards made it clear that Pakistan couldn't host the event since many teams had raised security concerns. MCA to reconsider dates for inaugural T20 League
The advancement of the T20 Zonal League by the BCCI has forced the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to reconsider the dates for its inaugural T20 league, which was supposed to take place from January 4-9. "The (new) dates for the League will be announced shortly. We have decided to reconsider the dates for the League as BCCI has advanced the dates for their Zonal T20 League," Unmesh Khanvilkar, Joint Secretary, MCA told PTI. Earlier at a function, MCA chief Ashish Shelar had even launched the logo for the League, which was supposed to be played from January 4 to 9. The T20 Zonal League has been advanced to January 8 to 16 from earlier January 21 to 29, while Syed Mushtaq Ali Knock-Out will now be held from January 21 to 27 instead of February 4 to 10. Another MCA official said that paper work for their League was going on. "Our boys will be playing the BCCI-T20 League and hence we decided to reconsider the dates for the League," the official maintained.
