Our boys lacked a bit of skill: Manoj Tiwary

Bengal captain Manoj Tiwary today confessed that his batsmen "lacked a bit of skill" while facing the raw pace of Navdeep Saini during their innings and 26-run defeat to Delhi in a Ranji Trophy semi-final. Saini cleaned up four Bengal batsmen with raw pace and a bit of movement. "We had a batting collapse and yes I must admit that there was some lack of skills while facing their bowling. Our batsmen should know the kind of situation they are in and the shots they can play," Tiwary said after the match. Asked about Abhimanyu Easwaran perishing while playing the same shot, which was dropped during the previous delivery, Tiwary said that he will only improve. "He is a matured kid. I don't know what was going through his mind at that point in time but he is still learning and will only get better. He will surely analyse what went wrong in execution," the skipper said. Tiwary also defended his decision to play only three and half (B Amit is an all rounder) bowlers. "I think we

Dhoni, Barabati pitch attract attention

The pitch at the Barabati Stadium, untested for about a year, and former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni attracted maximum attention on the eve of the T20 series opener between India and Sri Lanka here. Dhoni headed straight to the 22-yard strip after dropping his kit bag and examined it minutely from both ends. Moments earlier Rohit Sharma, who is standing in as captain in the absence of Virat Kohli, and coach Ravi Shastri had a close look of the pitch by removing the light green cover, which was in place to protect it from excessive drying. In the only T20I played here on October 5, 2015 India collapsed for 92 to lose to South Africa. But in an ODI exactly 11 months ago, India and England aggregated more than 700 runs, with Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh's centuries helping the team to a narrow win after it notched up up a mammoth 381 for six. The pitch hasn't witnessed competitive cricket since then and to make matters worse, some football matches were played in the multipurpose .
