In-form Aussies give Langer 'brutal' World Cup selection dilemma

Australia coach Justin Langer Monday admitted some players will be "brutally unlucky" as he faces a World Cup selection dilemma with the return of Steve Smith and David Warner. The defending champions must name their 15-man squad this month for the tournament in England and Wales and Langer said the make-up was becoming clear on the back of the resurgent team's stunning eight-game one-day win streak against India and Pakistan. "It's actually becoming more obvious by the day to me. The same with the other selectors," he said on the Cricket Australia website. "We know categorically there are going to be one or two guys brutally unlucky not to get selected because they're all going so well... the blokes in the squad at the moment will be praying it's not them." Australia made it eight in a row with a 20-run win in the fifth and final one-dayer against Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday to sweep the series 5-0 after coming from behind to beat India 3-2 last month. Their red-hot form has been ...

'I don't know how I did that': Norris stunned by McLaren finish

Teenage rookie Lando Norris said he had no idea how he managed to finish an impressive sixth to score his first Formula One points in Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix. Norris, 19, confirmed McLaren's continuing recovery from a prolonged slump in form with a determined performance in only his second race. "I don't know where it came from," he said. "The whole race today was more fun than in Australia. "I had better pace than I thought we would have and I enjoyed it. I got knocked down to 12th because of some contact and then got back to P6. It was fun. I could have passed Kimi Raikkonen a couple of laps earlier, but I was trying to be sensible and not take risks. I just used my own initiative." His McLaren team-mate Carlos Sainz was forced to retire for the second successive race after suffering a puncture following an early clash with Max Verstappen's Red Bull as they battled for fifth.

Federer refutes Tsitsipas preferential treatment claim

Swiss great Roger Federer has refuted claims by Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas that the most experienced players on the ATP Tour receive preferential treatment from officials. Federer, speaking after landing the 101st title of his career at the Miami Open with a straight sets triumph over defending champion John Isner, strongly disagreed. He acknowledged that umpires might interact differently with players they are more familiar with, but said it didn't amount to preferential treatment. "It's a tough one but what I do feel sometimes is that on the outside courts, more than just preferential treatment to the top guys, they are tougher on the rules," Federer told AFP. "You do something - bang, warning. It's like there is no messing about. "But with the umpires with the top guys on the main courts, I think the umpires know the top guys, they know their problems, they know how they behave and how they will react, so they know what acting stupid or silly means and what normal is. "So because .

Solskjaer defends United tactics after Van Gaal jibe

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer takes Manchester United back to the scene of his worst result as manager when he visits Wolves on Tuesday, but criticism from Louis van Gaal won't ruffle the Norwegian. Van Gaal made some critical comments in an interview last week in which he claimed only United's results have improved, rather than the style of play, when Solskjaer's team are compared with the group he inherited from Jose Mourinho. It was an observation that seemed to be borne out as United laboured to an uninspiring 2-1 win over Watford on Saturday, Solskjaer's 15th victory in 20 games in charge. But it was also a result that keeps United firmly in contention for a top-four finish, a prospect that looked nearly impossible when Solskjaer took over as caretaker for the sacked Mourinho in December. And, as he prepared to take United back to the scene of their FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Wolves, Solskjaer was happy to launch an impassioned defence of his team's style of football. "Louis is ...

"We are happy with him and I am going to count on him, now there are nine games left and then we will see what happens. He is a Real Madrid player and I don't think this will change," Zidane said. "You have to accept it. If the people want to come to the Bernabeu to see us so much the better, but I understand that since we are not going to win anything fewer people come." Real move to ..
