Art of leaving and negotiating short ball in Vihari's plans for Australia Tests

The art of leaving the ball and negotiating the short ball are the two aspects of his game, Hanuma Vihari is working on ahead of India's tour of Australia. Vihari made a gritty 56 on Test debut in England but did not make the eleven for the two home games against the West Indies despite being in the squad. Since there is not much time left for the first Test starting December 6 at Adelaide, Vihari hopes to be in India A squad for the New Zealand tour, where Test regulars Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane are also expected to travel ahead of the tour Down Under. "I did not get a game against the West Indies, so I used the time in the nets to prepare for Australia. We had a ramp kept on the pitch so that it generates some steep bounce which we are likely to face Down Under," said Vihari after making a match-winning 87 in India B's 43-run win over India A in Deodhar Trophy here on Tuesday. "It is a big series I would like to be hundred percent before I go there. I don't know if I will

Chandimal soon took charge to carry forward the momentum, building crucial partnerships including a 101-run third wicket stand with Kusal Mendis, who smashed 56 off 33 balls. Paceman Tom Curran got the captain out on a slower delivery with Jason Roy taking the catch at deep mid-wicket. Chandimal hit 6 fours and 2 sixes in his 73-ball knock. Curran struck again on the very next ball with the wicket of Thisara Perera for 11, but was denied the hat-trick by Akila Dananjaya, who played a useful cameo of 18 not ...

Indian cricket works on perceptions: Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin would not get into the debate if the wrist spinners are more effective than the finger spinners, saying the theories floated in Indian cricket are based on "perceptions". Ashwin is currently not in India's ODI scheme of things with Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav being regular feature for past 1 year. Ask him about this wrist vs finger spinner debate, Ashwin's answer was laced with sarcasm. "Like they say, world spins and everything will spin around. It's only matter of time as more often than not Indian cricket is built mostly on perceptions," Ashwin said on sidelines of Deodhar Trophy game on Tuesday. India's fourth highest wicket-taker in Test cricket, the eloquent Ashwin made it clear that he doesn't have time for critics, who have dissected his bowling over the years. Questioned if he agrees that in Test a spinner's success depends on stock ball, he replied:"If you are successful, people will say it's right. If you are not successful, people will have an ...

FC Goa hoping to keep momentum going against Mumbai City

Having registered their first victory of the season, FC Goa would look to keep the winning momentum going when they take on Mumbai City FC at home in a Hero Indian Super League match here on Wednesday. With four points from two games, the Gaurs have made a positive start to the fifth season of the tournament. Sergio Lobera's men would have been a little disappointed to walk away with a 2-2 draw in their opening fixture against NorthEast United FC but made their intentions clear in the next game with a stunning 3-1 win away from home against defending champions Chennaiyin FC. Despite losing the services of prolific playmaker Manuel Lanzarote to ATK, Goa boasts of strong attacking line and they proved that by scoring five goals scored in two matches so far. Last season's Golden Boot winner Ferran Corominas has shown no signs of slowing down and has already scored three goals in two appearances. "We always try to play an attacking brand of football and the idea is to win the game. That's

Battle for ICC T20I top spots as Aussies face off Pakistan

After slipping from the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test team rankings, Australia have another chance to make a comeback and attain the top position in the T20I team rankings when they will face Pakistan in the upcoming three-match series. The mission though would not be an easy one as Australia will require a 3-0 series sweep to register themselves at the top spot and become the eighth side to attain the uppermost position after England, India, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and West Indies.Australia, who scored an easy seven-wicket win over the United Arab Emirates (UAE) earlier on Monday, are presently placed at the third spot with 123 points, just one point behind India, while Pakistan are perched at 132 points. A series sweep will take them to 130 points and bring Pakistan down to 127 points. This would bring Australia ahead of India to the second position with a 2-1 series win.On the other hand, Pakistan need to win just one of the three upcoming matches to remain .
