5 startups receive Rs 6.5 cr equity investment from Tamil Nadu govt

Five startups engaged in various sectors, including electronics manufacturing and healthcare, have received funding of Rs 6.5 crore from the Tamil Nadu government. The sanction of equity investments in the companies was issued under the Tamil Nadu SC/ST Startup Fund by Chief Minister M K Stalin at an event here organised by StartupTN, a press release said on Thursday. Accordingly, Ecopmin Technologies, which is engaged in electronics manufacturing, received Rs 3 crore while Adhiban Farms Pvt Ltd, which deals with agriculture technology, secured funding of Rs 2.2 crore. Healthcare player COEO Wellness Pvt Ltd was granted Rs 60 lakh while Mannvasanai Traditional Food Pvt Ltd attracted an investment of Rs 45 lakh. At least 52 hospitalised after ammonia gas leak at Chennai fertiliser unit

Ammonia gas leaked from a fertiliser manufacturing unit at Ennore in north Chennai and several people have been hospitalised, official sources said here on Wednesday. The incident occurred by 11.45 pm on Tuesday, following which over 25 people in the neighbourhood of the manufacturing facility experienced unease and they were taken to nearby hospitals, sources added.

TN CM announces Rs 8.68 cr to provide cash aid to families hit by oil spill

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday ordered cash assistance ranging between Rs 7,500 and Rs 12,500 to 9,001 families affected by the oil spill in north Chennai areas. Also, Stalin directed authorities to disburse Rs 10,000 to each of the 787 affected boats. Due to cyclone Michaung triggered rains and resultant floods here early this month, oil spillage surfaced in Kosasthalai river/the Ennore creek. Oil mixed with flood water and it spread further reaching the creek area. In this regard, the government said it took swift initiatives to remove the oil spillage. The oil spill originated from the area where the Chennai Petrochemical Corporation Limited's refinery is located in north Chennai. As a result of the oil slick and seepage, boats and nets in fishing villages in north Chennai were affected. 31 people lost their lives in rain related incidents in TN: FM Sitharaman

As many as 31 people have lost their lives in the four districts in Tamil Nadu due to heavy rainfall, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Friday. The Centre has already released Rs 900 crore funds in two installments to be used in this financial year to Tamil Nadu, she said, addressing mediapersons here. Sitharaman said the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai has ultra-modern equipment including three dopplers and had forecast on December 12 itself that there would be heavy rainfall in the four districts - Tenkasi, Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli and Tuticorin on December 17. When such a massive disaster was taking place in Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister M K Stalin was in Delhi with the INDI Alliance, she said.

Tamil Nadu rains: NDRF, IAF collaborate to rescue stranded train passengers

Work to rescue about 800 passengers stranded at Srivaikuntam in southern Tamil Nadu is 'going on' and the exercise will be completed as soon as possible, an official said on Tuesday. Elsewhere, the Army assisted evacuation of people from flood-hit areas and provided them medical care. Though rainfall activity has almost come to a halt in most parts of southern Tamil Nadu, the inundation is still heavy, which continues to affect normalcy. Tamil Nadu software exports hit $4.8 bn, top among all states: Minister

Software exports from Tamil Nadu have reached an all-time high of USD 4.8 billion surpassing all other states in the country as of October 31, 2023, State Minister T R B Rajaa said on Wednesday. The Tamil Nadu government on Monday reviewed the oil spillage mitigation works in north Chennai, with the Ennore Creek area suffering from "significant" oil deposits. An Expert Committee had made extensive field visits and concluded that oil spillage had happened from the premises of CPCL entering into Buckingham canal from Guard ponds and Storm Water Drain ponds finally reaching the Ennore Creek. The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) has issued a notice to the Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) on the matter, an official release said. On Monday, Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena chaired a High-Level Committee meeting of the State Oil Spill Crisis Management Group (SOS-CMG) and reviewed the oil spillage mitigation work.
