Union Minister Kishan Reddy takes over as Telangana BJP chief: Reports

Union Minister for Tourism and Culture G Kishan Reddy on Friday formally took charge as Telangana BJP President here, party sources said. He replaced Karimnagar Lok Sabha MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar. Before taking over charge at the party's office, Reddy offered prayers at Sri Bhagyalakshmi temple adjacent to Charminar. Along with other senior leaders, he garlanded the statues of Dr BR Ambedkar and others. Earlier this month, seeking to put an end to internal wrangling and protracted media speculation on the developments in the BJP, the party's central leadership appointed Kishan Reddy as the state party chief in place of Sanjay Kumar.

Kishan Reddy prevented by police from visiting T'gana housing project site

High drama prevailed here on Thursday as Union Minister and Telangana BJP president G Kishan Reddy along with other party leaders sat on the road after being stopped by police from proceeding to inspect a site of the BRS government's housing scheme for the poor. Kishan Reddy sat on the road in Outer Ring Road miffed at being prevented from heading to the housing site. "Am I a criminal? Am I a terrorist? I have a right to go anywhere in India," Kishan Reddy told Commissioner of Rachakonda Police D S Chauhan who tried to persuade the Union Minister and other leaders to vacate the place. Kishan Reddy was later physically lifted by police and taken away from the place to a vehicle. He had announced a plan to visit the state government's two bedroom housing site at Batasingaram here. Kishan Reddy had earlier condemned the "house arrest" of BJP leaders by police in view of the planned visit to the two bedroom housing site.

BJP seeks CBI probe into projects executed by BRS govt in Telangana

BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Sunday demanded a CBI inquiry alleging siphoning off of funds by the BRS government by showing some executed projects under two different schemes in Nizamabad district of Telangana. The BRS government has given six projects belonging to Nizamabad district under two different schemes, one under the loan taken by the Road Development Corporation and the second shown under the Central Special Assistance of the Central government, Chugh said in a statement. According to Chugh, one work is completed but the funds are taken from two different sources leading to double accounting of one work. "There are reports which clearly state that funds amounting to Rs 4,144 crore under the special assistance scheme of the Central government have been siphoned off through double accounting. The Congress' Telangana in-charge Manikrao Thakre on Wednesday said free power supply to farmers will be among the Assembly poll promises of his party and it is considering what more can be provided to them. Mid-day meal to millions of students in T'gana affected by workers' strike

The ongoing strike by over 54,000 MDM workers seeking fulfillment of their demands immediately, continues to affect Mid-Day Meal supply to lakhs of school students in Telangana. The strike enters its third day on Wednesday. A senior official of the Education Department said the District Education Officers (DEO) were asked to make alternate arrangements to ensure food supply to the students is not affected and hoped that the strike would end in a day or two. MDM workers have been demanding the state government to clear the pending bills and also implement the hike in remuneration immediately, among other demands. Rs 1.21 trn spent on urban infra in Telangana, says minister K T Rama Rao

The Telangana government has spent over Rs 1.21 lakh crore between 2014 to 2023 from Municipal Administration and Urban Development department for the infrastructure and capital investment in Hyderabad and other urban areas, Minister K T Rama Rao said on Wednesday. Releasing the annual report of MUDA, he said it is 462.8 per cent more than (or 4.62 times) Rs 26,211.5 crore, which was spent by the then government for the period between 2004 and 2014. Of the total Rs 1,21,294 crore infra spending during 2014-23, a whopping Rs 1,11,360 crore (91.8 per cent) was spent by the state government and only Rs 9,934 crore (8.2 per cent) was the Centre's share, he further said. The Strategic Urban Road Development (SRDP) programme was set up to create conflict-free corridors on the main traffic-bearing thoroughfares and to increase the average speed from 15 to 35 kilometres per hour in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and surrounding areas, the Minister said. Reddy skips Union Cabinet meet after appointment as Telangana BJP president

A day after his appointment as the Telangana BJP president, Union minister G Kishan Reddy skipped the meeting of the Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. Though no official reason was cited for his absence, some leaders believe it could be an indication of his likely exit from the Union Cabinet ahead of its expected reshuffle. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday instructed the officials to take measure on a war footing to stockpile water in the State's reservoirs from Krishna and Godavari rivers including 'Kaleshwaram'--multi-purpose lift irrigation project. Rao, also known as KCR, held a high level meeting with officials at Secretariat on rainfall, availability of water in the rivers like Pranahita, water storage in the state's reservoirs, electricity demand etc, an official release said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay foundation stone for various development projects at Warangal in Telangana on July 8, Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy said on Sunday. Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy has unveiled a postal cover on '9 Years of Telangana Statehood' and picture post cards showcasing 'Buddhist Heritage in Telangana Bavapur Kurru' here.
