Toyota announces EV, battery push in China, US as quarterly profit surges

Toyota is developing and making electric vehicles and EV batteries in China, the Japanese automaker said Wednesday, under a new partnership with the Shanghai government. Toyota Motor Corp. also announced it will start producing batteries for EVs, hybrids and plug-ins at a new USD 14 billion facility in North Carolina, with shipping starting for North American models in April. Toyota Motor's vehicle sales increase 19% to 29,371 units in January

Toyota Kirloskar Motor on Saturday said its sales increased by 19 per cent year-on-year to 29,371 units in January. The company had dispatched 24,609 units in the same month last year. The company sold 26,178 units in the domestic market and exported 3,193 units last month. The continued momentum underscores the company's sharp focus on customer centricity, enhancing customer access across the country and increased emphasis on innovative value-added solutions, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) said in a statement. Toyota Kirloskar Motor on Wednesday reported 29 per cent increase in sales at 29,529 units in December 2024 as compared to 22,867 units in the same month a year ago. The company said it recorded its best-ever calendar year sales in 2024 at 3,26,329 units. This was higher by 40 per cent as compared to 2,33,346 units sold in 2023.
