US House Speaker Pelosi meets Singapore leaders at start of Asia tour
US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi held talks with officials in Singapore on Monday at the start of her Asian tour, as questions swirled over a possible stop in Taiwan that has fueled tension with Beijing. Pelosi met with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, President Halimah Yacob and other Cabinet members, the Foreign Ministry said. Lee welcomed a US commitment to strong engagement with the region, and the two sides discussed ways to deepen US economic engagement through initiatives such as the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework, the ministry said in a statement. Lee and Pelosi also discussed the war in Ukraine, tensions surrounding Taiwan and mainland China, and climate change, it said. US ends General Motors' steering investigation without seeking a recall
US safety regulators have closed an investigation into sticky power steering on thousands of older General Motors SUVs and will not seek a recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says GM in 2014 issued "special coverage" to fix the problem on the Chevrolet Equinox, GMC Terrain and other models. The coverage replaced a steering gear with an improved one. The agency said a recall isn't needed because of the coverage and low complaint and warranty repair rates. The agency opened the probe in June of 2020 into steering problems affecting an estimated 781,000 of the SUVs from the 2010 through 2012 model years. Increased friction could make it feel like the steering wheel is stuck. But GM said the SUVs could still be turned, although with more effort than usual. In view of the special coverage, low rate of failure and low potential hazard to drivers, this preliminary evaluation is closed, the agency wrote in documents posted Wednesday on its website.

IT major Wipro has launched its new innovation studio at Austin in Texas, US, the company said on Thursday. Wipro said that the new centre, spread over 40,000 square feet, will create hundreds of jobs locally. "The studio will provide a dynamic collaborative workplace environment with a harmonious balance of diverse work settings and amenity offerings. It will also create a fresh intake of new-age talent for hot tech skills, thereby creating hundreds of new jobs locally and bringing investments from tech organisations starting from the first year itself," the company said in a statement. Wipro's innovation studio is designed to be a collaborative space of 36 huddle rooms, 12 conference rooms and 330 individual think spaces, energising community spaces and areas for focused collaboration, the statement said.
