McDonald's agreed to Donald Trump event but says it isn't endorsing him

McDonald's Corp. agreed to host former President Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania store over the weekend but said it isn't endorsing a candidate in the US presidential race. Trump staffed the fry station at a McDonald's in suburban Philadelphia on Sunday before answering questions through the drive-thru window. The restaurant was closed to the public for the Republican nominee's visit. In a message to employees obtained Monday by The Associated Press, McDonald's said the owner-operator of the location, Derek Giacomantonio reached out after he learned of Trump's desire to visit a Pennsylvania restaurant. McDonald's agreed to the event. "Upon learning of the former president's request, we approached it through the lens of one of our core values: we open our doors to everyone, the company said. McDonald's does not endorse candidates for elected office and that remains true in this race for the next president. We are not red or blue we are golden." The Chicago burger giant said franchis

Harris raises $633 million in 3rd quarter but spends heavily in final push

Kamala Harris' campaign and affiliated Democratic groups raised about USD 633 million for the quarter, which ended last month, pushing their total to over USD 1 billion while maintaining a large financial advantage over Republican candidate Donald Trump in the presidential election's final sprint. The vice president's campaign, the Democratic National Committee and state parties raised more than USD 359 million in September alone. Harris' campaign raised about USD 222 million in September. Harris' team alone spent more than it took in last month, paying out about USD 270 million to help boost a large advertising push, as it works to reach voters on the radio, television, online, billboards and other avenues. The Harris campaign and affiliated committees entered October with USD 346 million on hand, according to federal filings. The Trump campaign, the Republican National Committee and affiliated groups previously reported raising USD 160 million in September up from the USD 130 ...

US elections 2024: Pennsylvania emerges as must-win for both Harris, Trump

Pennsylvania, the state that played a vital role in the US War of Independence, has emerged as the ground zero for the 2024 presidential elections. Political experts feel that Democratic nominee Kamala Harris and her Republican rival Donald Trump are headed for a cliffhanger in the state. One needs 270 electoral college votes to win the presidential race and each of the 50 states in the US has a different number of electoral college votes. Pennsylvania has 19 while California, a Democratic bastion, has 54 electoral college votes, followed by Texas -- a Republican stronghold -- 40. Given the political support in each state, experts have already figured out the number of electoral college votes going to a candidate based on past voting patterns, except for the seven battleground states. These seven states are Nevada, which has six electoral college votes, Arizona (11), Wisconsin (10), Michigan (15), Pennsylvania (19), Georgia (16) and North Carolina (16). With the fast-changing ...

Indian Americans hesitant to vote for Harris: Democratic community leader

Senior Indian American leader Swadesh Chatterjee has said the community is hesitant to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris in the November 5 election as she has not developed a base among them in her previous roles as Senator or the Attorney General of California. A Padma Bhushan awardee of 2001, the Democratic community has created the "Indian Americans for Harris" group and has been campaigning for her not only in the state of North Carolina, where he is based, but is also organising support for the vice president in other battleground states. While accepting that the community is hesitant to vote for her overwhelmingly because they do not know her well, Chatterjee said that Harris, as the Attorney General of California, did not build up an Indian American base and was not a part of any community meetings or any of their events as a Senator. "She did not have that kind of base though she is of Indian origin," he told PTI in an interview. Chatterjee said his observation on the .

Judge unseals censored evidence in Trump's 2020 election interference case

The judge overseeing Donald Trump's 2020 election interference case made public Friday a heavily redacted trove of documents that provide a small glimpse into the evidence prosecutors will present if the case ever goes to trial. The nearly 1,900 pages of documents collected by special counsel Jack Smith's team were initially filed under seal to help U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan decide what allegations can proceed to trial following the Supreme Court opinion in July that conferred broad immunity on former presidents for official acts they take in office. The information that could be seen in the redacted version released Friday appeared to be material that for the most part had already been made public, including screenshots of Trump social media posts about the 2020 election and a transcript of the video statement he made on Jan. 6, 2021 in, which he told the rioters attacking the Capitol to go home, but added: we love you and you're very special. US elections: Trump uses interviews on economics to promote tariffs

Donald Trump seized Tuesday on an opening to sound his frequent argument that imposing huge tariffs on foreign goods would amount to an economic elixir - one that he claims would raise enormous sums for the government, protect U.S. firms from overseas competition and prod foreign companies to open factories in the United States. Appearing before a friendly audience at the Economic Club of Chicago, the Republican presidential nominee repeatedly asserted that tariffs are misunderstood as an economic tool. To me," Trump said, the most beautiful word in the dictionary is tariff. It's my favorite word. It needs a public relations firm. If tariffs need an image makeover, it's probably because mainstream economists say they actually amount to a tax on American consumers that would make the economy less efficient and send inflation surging in the United States. The moderator, John Micklethwait, editor-in-chief of Bloomberg News, often struggled to keep the conversation focused on economics

TikTok allowed disinformation in political ads despite ban: Global Witness

Just weeks before the U.S. presidential election, TikTok approved advertisements that contained election disinformation even though it has a ban on political ads, according to a report published Thursday by the nonprofit Global Witness. The technology and environmental watchdog group submitted ads that it designed to test how well systems at social media companies work in detecting different types of election misinformation. The group, which did a similar investigation two years ago, did find that the companies especially Facebook have improved their content-moderation systems since then. But it called out TikTok for approving four of the eight ads submitted for review that contained falsehoods about the election. That's despite the platform's ban on all political ads in place since 2019. The ads never appeared on TikTok because Global Witness pulled them before they went online. Four ads were incorrectly approved during the first stage of moderation, but did not run on our ...

Harris calls on Republicans to put 'country first' as Trump woos Latinos

Surrounded by more than 100 former Republican office holders and officials, Democrat Kamala Harris urged GOP voters on Wednesday to put country first and abandon Donald Trump. The Democratic presidential candidate made her case to Republican voters that the patriotic choice was her party in next month's election because Trump is unstable and unhinged" and would eviscerate democratic norms if given a second White House term. America must heed this warning," said Harris, speaking at a rally near where Gen. George Washington led hundreds of troops across the Delaware River to a major victory in the Revolutionary War. Joined by the former lawmakers and government officials for a rally in the Philadelphia suburbs, Harris said, Anyone who tramples on our democratic values as Donald Trump has, anyone who has called for the termination' of the Constitution of the United States as Donald Trump has, must never again stand behind the seal of the president of the United States." The rally was

US elections: Elon Musk commits $70 million to boost Donald Trump

Elon Musk, a tech mogul who is the world's richest person, plunged more than USD 70 million into helping Donald Trump and other Republicans win in November's election, making him one of the biggest donors to GOP causes this campaign season, according to campaign finance disclosures released this week. Musk made the donated over the summer to America PAC, a super political action committee he launched in May to aid Trump in his bid to return to the White House. It quickly became a central player in Trump's election effort. The America PAC is just aiming for common sense, centrist values, the Space X and Tesla founder said Tuesday on his social media platform X, shortly after the sum of money he contributed was made public in a campaign finance filing. Super PACs like Musk's America PAC can raise and spend unlimited sums of money but are typically are forbidden from coordinating their efforts with the candidates they support. Jill Biden is out campaigning again but not for her husband this time

Jill Biden wasted no time after she stepped up to the microphone at a suburban Detroit restaurant. Now some have come to (the) Detroit area recently and thrown around some insults, but from what I've seen this is a vibrant, thriving city, she said. It was a swipe at Republican Donald Trump, who aimed a recent dart at the most populous city in a critical Midwestern battleground state. The first lady was back on the campaign trail for the first time in months, but no longer pushing Democrats to support her husband, President Joe Biden. Instead, she is now putting her energy into boosting Vice President Kamala Harris, who Biden endorsed for president after he dropped his reelection bid. On Tuesday, the first lady wrapped up a five-day swing through five battleground states. While the race itself has changed, what remains unchanged for Jill Biden is her effort to highlight contrasts with Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, in the hope that Democrats can keep the former president
